Two of Manchester City’s goalkeepers are open to leaving the club - just months after a first major shake-up of that department in eight years.
Daily Mail Sport understands that both James Trafford and Stefan Ortega have eyes on the January window, with the former having been told he was joining as first choice on completion of a £27million switch from Burnley and Ederson sealing a switch to Fenerbahce.
Gianluigi Donnarumma went on to arrive from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day, with City having trailed the Italian for much of the summer, and he has started every Premier League game since.
City used a matching rights clause to beat Newcastle United to the signing of Trafford in July and the Magpies are expected to return for the 23-year-old next month.
But with Ortega also looking to the exit door, City will have decisions to make over what to do with the team behind Donnarumma.
Part of Trafford’s discussions with City over the summer centred on the move providing an opportunity to claim the England jersey from Everton’s Jordan Pickford.
Yet the Cumbrian’s slow start to life back at the Etihad Stadium could leave his World Cup place in jeopardy, with Thomas Tuchel insistent that members of the squad must be playing regularly.
Ortega is now effectively fourth choice behind Marcus Bettinelli and is not travelling to away matches.
City can go within two points of leaders Arsenal if they beat Fulham at Craven Cottage on Tuesday night but head there with Donnarumma on a disciplinary tightrope.
The 26-year-old could become the first goalkeeper in Premier League history to receive a suspension for accumulating five yellow cards before the count is reset during the first week of January.
Donnarumma picked up a fourth during Saturday’s dramatic 3-2 win over Leeds United. Three of them have been for dissent towards referees, the other for time-wasting.
Guardiola said he hadn’t spoken to the stopper about his behaviour and added: ‘He has many, it is what it is.’
