Manchester United are waving off six players today upon the expiry of their contracts.
June 30 is the date when players' contracts reach a conclusion, with United moving on half a dozen players for pastures new.
While three of the players have largely featured in youth and academy teams, the other three have been, at one time, prominent in the first team set-up.
Ten Hag is eager not to stick in the past and in his bid to revolutionise the team has given his blessing to see Phil Jones, David de Gea and Axel Tuanzebe leave.
The Dutch boss has had little to do with Jones since he arrived, with the defender playing just five times in the last three-and-a-half years due to his chronic knee issues. He has been at United for 12 years.
De Gea had an offer on the table to stay, albeit on significantly reduced terms from his £375,000-a-week deal which expires today, but United are said to have performed a u-turn and he has now left.
Ten Hag is keen to upgrade his options in goal and Inter Milan's Andre Onana, who worked with Ten Hag at Ajax, is a top target.
Academy product Tuanzebe is another player leaving United today after falling further down the pecking order at centre back behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Tuanzebe had hoped to cement his place in the United first XI after joining the team on their pre-season tour last summer. However, he left Australia with a 'personal issue' and struggled to work his way back into the squad.
Ethan Galbraith, Charlie Wellens and Di'Shon Bernard are the others leaving.
A lot of focus will be on De Gea and former United star Rio Ferdinand bemoaned the way the saga around the Spaniard's future has been handled to this point.
Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: 'It's a funny situation. Whether you think David de Gea is good enough for Manchester United anymore is up for debate.
'But he's been an unreal servant to this football club. 12 years he's been at this club, similar to what I was at this club. Player of the year, four or five times in that time been phenomenal.'
He added: 'I'm just a little bit gutted with how the club have handled this. It comes down to communication. I think Manchester United need to learn from this. They have made mistakes before with big players leaving the club in the past.'

My great club has gone to the dogs. Legends are now treated like used toilet tissue. CR7 after scoring the most goals for the last season was used as a bench player, he was rarely used when the better quality players to support him was on the pitch. Most times he was the one starting the play instead of finishing them. Forcing him to leave. Now De Gea is offered a reduced contract and after signing it is taken back by the club and another even more reduced on offered also forcing him to leave after wining the Golden glove. Shameful administrators.

this is not how to treat a legend, may we not regret signing onana because I know de Gea is far better than him

All these people whining 😢 😭 in comments that United is treating DDG bad are just crazy. 🤪 This is a rebuild. DDG hasn't been playing for free. With all those ridiculous wages that means United has been respecting him. Now, you guys don't know exactly what happened to reach at that point of letting him go. Don't think that they just kicked him out. And for those saying the Ronaldo was treated the say way get your facts right. Ronaldo's case was different. And I won't even go into that. For De gea, I believe there was a contract for him, but I guess he didn't like it because of reduced wages and how ten Hag was planning on bringing in a new Goalkeeper. De gea is someone who doesn't want competition. And besides that, he's never been a tenhag kind of keeper basing on how tenhag wants his team to press and control press. The rule was not that sophisticated, you either sign a way reduced contract and compete with a new Goalkeeper for one year then leave. Or you rather go somewhere you could be guaranteed first choice. Him being a legend and loyal doesn't mean that we have to keep him until he dies. This is a new generation. Things have changed, and in 2 years all these players who have been at United for so long won't exist anymore. Look at how City does. You are easy ready for the rough and tough competition or you leave. At the end of the day it's business. These players ain't playing for free. DDG wasn't taking Man United back to glory times. We have seen him from time to time making errors in most important games where we needed him most. He's not gonna change. It's the right time now to move on.
