Manchester United are interested in bringing back former goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to Old Trafford, according to reports.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper is having a stand-out season for relegation candidates West Bromwich Albion, with his recent form earning him a first call-up to Gareth Southgate's England squad in March.
The summer transfer window promises to be an important period in United's goalkeeping department, with the future of David de Gea uncertain after Dean Henderson's recent spell in the side.
And according to The Sun, the Red Devils will make a move for Johnstone should one of De Gea or Henderson opt to leave the club in the coming months.
The Red Devils also have Sergio Romero and Lee Grant on their goalkeeping roster but neither of the duo have made a senior appearance so far this term.
The Baggies goalkeeper has kept five clean sheets in 29 top-flight appearances this season but has caught the eye in a number of stunning displays, particularly against the top sides.
Johnstone pulled off some incredible stops as West Brom picked up surprise points away at Liverpool and Manchester City this season, while his accuracy with his feet has been impressive too.
The 28-year-old picked up his first assist of the season by playing a pin-point ball to Matheus Peireira to slot home in Albion's shock 5-2 victory at Chelsea last weekend.
But the Baggies face a real struggle to stay in the top-flight for next season with Sam Allardyce's side eight points behind 17th-placed Newcastle with eight games to play going into Monday's clash at home to Southampton.
Johnstone will have one year remaining on his West Brom contract and could be tempted to move on should the Midlands side face the drop.
A move back to Manchester United would see the shot stopper return to the club where he spent many years as the club's number one goalkeeper at academy level.
The goalkeeper first joined the Red Devils in 2009 as a youngster but never made a senior appearance for the club before joining the Baggies in 2018, via loan spells at several Football League clubs including Aston Villa.
ESPN reported this week that Johnstone could be valued at around £10million by West Brom this summer, with Tottenham, West Ham and Leeds also interested in the shot stopper.

This is only possible if De Gea leaves Manchester United, obviously we'll have to sign a competition for Henderson even thought he will be no1, he's still young and he needs competition to keep him at his toes

None of the current keeper wants to play the backup. Degea, Henderson. Romero as well bcos if degea is not no1, he expect to be first choice not henderson , hence the outburst from his wife and no contract extension signed.

He is performing well. One that stood out was against Liverpool at Anfield. He would make a great 2nd goalkeeper IF he doesn't mind. That's a big IF
