Michael Carrick has become the bookmakers' favourite to be Manchester United's next permanent manager after his odds shortened from 10/3 to 6/4 following the dramatic 3-2 win over Arsenal

The hunt for Manchester United's next permanent boss took an unexpected twist just hours after their thrilling victory at the Emirates Stadium over the weekend. The final match of the weekend saw the Red Devils snatch a late winner against Premier League leaders Arsenal, reigniting the title race whilst propelling United into the Champions League spots for the first time this campaign.

The away side fought back to establish a 2-1 advantage early in the second half following a Lisandro Martinez own goal which had opened the scoring, before Bryan Mbeumo levelled matters before the interval and Patrick Dorgu's strike, following some superb build-up play, put United ahead in the 50th minute.

The victory has now propelled Michael Carrick's name to pole position as the clear frontrunner for the permanent role, with the former midfielder's odds slashed from 10/3 to 6/4 with bookmakers following a promising start to his caretaker stint. With consecutive Premier League victories for the first time since October - including last week's Manchester Derby triumph at Old Trafford - it presents a compelling case for Carrick assuming the position on a permanent basis.

The two names previously mentioned would mean United wouldn't need to pay any compensation fees, as Glasner revealed his plans to depart Crystal Palace at the season's end following their FA Cup defeat to non-league Macclesfield and captain Marc Guehi's transfer to Manchester City.

Additional contenders include Aston Villa's Unai Emery, who has steered his team to within four points of Arsenal, whilst former Brighton and Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi also features in the odds market, with both bosses priced at 20/1.
