Manchester United have reportedly decided against appointing Gareth Southgate as their new manager.
According to The Mirror, Southgate could be eager to manage in club football again.
However, United are said to have chosen not to name Southgate as their new boss as the timelines do not align.
The FA are reportedly prepared to give Southgate a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in December.
United have been linked with a host of other managers amid suggestions that they could dismiss Erik ten Hag.
Southgate has received much praise for the work that he has done as England manager, which included reaching the final of Euro 2020.
However, there is now an increasing focus on whether he will be able to guide the Three Lions to glory this summer.
The FA also have yet to identify a potential successor to Southgate.
Southgate has been England manager since 2016. He was previously in charge of England's Under-21 side, having commenced his managerial career with Middlesbrough.
United have reportedly held talks with Thomas Tuchel but it is understood that the former Bayern Munich manager is no longer under consideration.
Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi have also been linked with the position.

Ten Hag doesn’t deserve the disrespect that INEOS have shown him. The manager situation isn't clear and while he's been waiting to hear his fate, he hears of all these meetings with other managers (from reliable sources like Romano). They are trying to play safe, but making the man look stupid. Why not clarify the manager situation so everyone can start planning? Imagine a situation where they sack him late, and he's got nowhere else to turn to because all other juicy job offers at other prestigious clubs have already been filled. INEOS should be make their mind up, and do so in a hurry. Ten Hag doesn't deserve this. The fans, as well, don't deserve this!
