Paris Saint-Germain won 2-0 at Manchester United, who saw Paul Pogba sent off at the end of their Champions League last-16 first leg.
Match Report
Paul Pogba was sent off as Paris Saint-Germain won 2-0 at Manchester United to take control of their last-16 Champions League tie, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tasting defeat for the first time since taking charge.
Injuries to Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard dented United's attacking thrust and PSG scored twice in seven second-half minutes at Old Trafford on Tuesday to put a foot in the quarter-finals.
Presnel Kimpembe converted a corner from Angel Di Maria to score his first professional goal and the former United winger recorded another assist when he set up Kylian Mbappe for a crucial second.
Although PSG were without injured forwards Neymar and Edinson Cavani, United could muster no response with veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon completely untested and the Premier League side's task in next month's second leg looks huge, especially as Pogba will be banned.
Match Events
5' NICE TRY! Di Maria's long shot wide out
PSG spread the ball around the edge of the United box before Di Maria takes on the strike, curling his effort just wide of the post. A warning for the hosts.
27' Mbappe wastes a golden chance
Verratti and Draxler combine to open up the United defence. The German slides a pass through to Mbappe in the box, but on the slide the Frenchman can only slice his strike wide of the target.
36' Di Maria's shot saved by De Gea after offside
PSG break through the United midfield and Marquinhos threads a pass through looking for Mbappe. Di Maria takes over from the Frenchman and tries to round De Gea, only to place a tame effort straight at the keeper. However, the Argentine was offside anyway.
52' SAVE! De Gea denies Mbappe's header
De Gea has to be alert at his near post as Mbappe latches on to a cross from the right flank from Dani Alves. He stoops to head towards the bottom corner, but De Gea palms the ball behind for a corner.
53' GOAL! Man Utd 0-1 PSG (Kimpembe)
The French champions take the lead as Kimpembe converts from the corner. Di Maria whipped the resulting corner to the back post.
Kimpembe stole a march on Matic, who switched off, allowing the defender to guide the ball beyond De Gea into the roof of the net. PSG have a vital away goal.
60' GOAL! Man Utd 0-2 PSG (Mbappe)
The visitors double their advantage on the break, with Mbappe converting from close range producing a simple finish. Di Maria was played into acres of space down the left flank.
The Argentine supplied a perfect low ball across the face of goal for the run of the forward. Mbappe placed his effort past De Gea from six yards to hand his team a crucial second away goal. PSG are in complete control now.
63' Amazing saves from De Gea to deny Mbappe & Bernat
Mbappe is played through on the counter by Marquinhos. He has acres of room to surge into the right inside channel. The forward only has De Gea to beat, but he tries to chip the Spaniard and sees his effort stopped with one hand.
PSG are rolling now and are putting United under serious pressure. De Gea keeps his side in the game and perhaps the tie with a fine stop to deny Bernat's blast from the left inside channel, turning the ball over the bar.
89' Second yellow card! Pogba sent off
Pogba is given a second yellow card for the challenge. It looked as though initially he had gotten away a lunge that caught Dani Alves high. However, the referee thought for about 30 seconds before reaching for the red card. United's evening gets even worse.

it could have been a lot worse but a deserved UTD loss it was. We came out to watch PSG play and Flash was just on another level, Marvel level. Woodward, were you in the stands? If you were, then I hope you understood why the game has transfer windows. It provides for a well balanced team capable of competing not just in one familiar league against familiar teams but also against other teams, especially those potent enough to hurt you. Fantastic performance PSGπππ. Back to the drawing board for us. Still got your back Ole.

Match Note 1. Referee had a terrible performance with his carding and not letting the match flow, thought he was gonna send the whole team off 2. Mbappe is Miles ahead of Rashford in terms of quality. 3. Tuchel is a tactical genius, almost similar to Pep. 4. Di Maria still angry with the burglary of his house. 5. No hope of comeback with Pogba missing.

I hate the way united played for first 45 mins . They were just leaving everything to be done in 2nd half by unnecessary high pressing as if playing under pressure . Counter attack was always in place . Disappointed with the coaching . I was really looking forward to this match

Has this "unbeaten streak" ended ?! At least we're going to hear our own words or be in peace for now. I am already convinced that this misfortune is going to continue.

Ole tactics tested at the highest level. Now letβs see how English media will rate him. Pogba shd learn how to control with temper, United could turn it around just like Barca did. Donβt forget united do well away in Juventus they won away. Now with no Pogba it seems their journey has ended. Next time donβt underrate any club in champions league just cuz few of their starter ainβt playing

I don't know why United fans were screaming out their chances to win. United have a team full of young lads and aged players who lack experience. United atleast tried hard to get back that's what I find and team spirit too came into play(Luke Shaw driving at Dani Alves). United atleast needs two more seasons and a couple of transfers to get back in their actual form. As United fan I feel satisfied. Atleast we are playing the Champions League.

Manchester United is overrated, they thought it was Fulham in white?

I think United Manager left a lot of CL stuff quality (required experience) on the bench (Phil Jones, Lukaku, Alexis, Mata). These guys would have provided more defensive resistance). Having seen no goal coming the whole of first half at home. some changes should have been made midway. But I wouldn't be surprised if Man United will stage a come back in France no matter what team PDF will put forth. I didn't watch yesterday's game but reading the match report makes me believe that the defending was awful on the part of ManU in addition to feeble attacking force, There is a lot of room for improvement that can be made, even with the absence of Pogba!

man u played better than they should have done and not many teams can put PSG on a backfoot like Man U did.PSG didn't get the victory, they fought for the victory. the team was good but the defence could not contain Mpabbe and Di Maria. Young doesn't know how to cross and he is not accurate either, he only kicks as longest he is kicking. And Pogba finally paid for putting his leg infront of other players instead of going to the ball. and referee saved him, he could have done it earlier. Now Manchester United fans will stop saying: Rashford and Martial are in form, we don't need any striker ππ . Those boys aren't good enough, we need somebody with a killer instinct ( a fast player and a fast thinker).
