Scott McTominay's first Old Trafford goal put Manchester United in front but Arsenal came from behind in the Premier League on Monday.
Match Report
A vital VAR intervention for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's strike gave Arsenal a 1-1 draw at Manchester United in the Premier League on Monday Night Football.
After a scrappy first 40 minutes, United took the lead through Scott McTominay's deflected strike from 22 yards following a United break (45), just moments after David de Gea had produced a double save to keep Arsenal out.
Arsenal were level through the help of VAR as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang lifted deftly over De Gea, played just onside by Harry Maguire after Axel Tuanzebe's sloppy pass (58), giving the striker his seventh goal in seven Premier League games this season.
McTominay, Maguire and Marcus Rashford came close for United late on, but the draw means Arsenal are fourth with 12 points, while United are three points further back in 10th with just four wins in their last 16 Premier League games.
Match Events
27' Yellow Card! Rashford booked
Rashford closes down David Luiz in possession and then chases down the loose ball. Sokratis is there first and gets caught by the striker's sliding challenge. Not the best tackle and he gets a booking.
29' CLOSE! Pereira's shot stopped by Leno
SAVE! Pereira wins the ball in the middle of the park and charges towards goal. He uses skill to weave his way past David Luiz before firing at goal, but Leno gets down well to save his left-footed strike.
43' SAVE! De Gea makes brilliant double-save
SAVE! Lindelof misses an interception at the back and Saka is through on goal. He goes for a low strike towards the right bottom corner, but De Gea gets down to make the stop. Guendouzi goes for the rebound, but De Gea gets across to the post to push it wide.
45' GOAL! Man Utd 1-0 Arsenal (McTominay)
GOAL! United break the deadlock on the counter. James leads the break out from the back and races the length of the field. He fires a low ball across the face of goal that evades Rashford. The Scot pulls the trigger on a right-footed effort that soars into the top left corner with the aid of a deflection. United needed that.
58' GOAL! Man Utd 1-1 Arsenal (Aubameyang)
GOAL! Tuanzebe loses possession in the final third and Saka releases Aubameyang in the right inside channel. He carries the ball into the middle of the box before lifting his effort over De Gea into the net. The official believed that the Gaboense was beyond the last man, but Maguire played him onside.
64' CHANCE! Pogba's long shot inches wide!
CLOSE! Pogba is inches away from restoring United's lead. Pereira's strike on the edge of the box is diverted into the Frenchman's path. He lines a curling effort on his right foot, but it just drifts wide of the right hand post.
72' CLOSE! Maguire's shot stopped by Leno
SAVE! Maguires almost launches a rocket into the top right corner, but Leno gets across to push it past the post. Pepe gave away possession for the visitors and was almost punished.
90' SAVE! Leno parries Rashford's long range free kick
SAVE! Rashford goes for goal and he bends his effort around the wall, but Leno is there to push it away from goal with a strong hand.
