Man Utd 2-2 Aston Villa: Red Devils go 3 games without a win before Spurs clash

  /  R47

Defensive troubles cost Manchester United once again as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were held to a 2-2 draw by Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

Match Reports

Tyrone Mings' first Premier League goal secured a draw for Aston Villa and prevented Manchester United moving into the top five for the first time since 14 September.

Villa skipper Jack Grealish gave his side a deserved lead with a magnificent curling shot after 11 minutes only for United to equaliser against the run of play just before the interval when a Marcus Rashford header hit the inside of a post before bouncing in off the back of former United keeper Tom Heaton.

Mings thought he was offside when he volleyed home two minutes after Victor Lindelof had given United their 64th-minute lead.

But the assistant referee kept his flag down and VAR proved he was correct to do so as Villa avoided defeat at Old Trafford for the first time since 2009.

ASTON VILLA TAKE THE LEAD! 1-0! What a strike! El Ghazi bursts down the right and races past Williams before standing up a cross that drifts towards Grealish just outside the box. 29' OFFSIDE! Trezeguet's goal disallowed

Villa have a goal disallowed! Grealish swings in another corner for the away side that initially gets cleared to Hourihane, who then clips it back out to Grealish who weaves his way to the byline before cutting it back for Trezeguet to bundle it in after a scramble. However, the referee disallows it owing to an offside against Grealish.

42' OWN GOAL! Man Utd 1-1 Aston Villa (Heaton)

MANCHESTER UNITED EQUALISE! 1-1! The hosts finally manage to build a spell of pressure and they make it count! United quickly work a short corner to Pereira who whips in an inviting cross from a better angle and it sails through to the back post, where Rashford ghosts into power a header that flicks off the post, before ricocheting off Heaton and into the net!

64' GOAL! Man Utd 2-1 Aston Villa (Lindelof)

MANCHESTER UNITED TAKE THE LEAD! 2-1! It's another well-worked set-piece! This time the short corner ends up finding its way to Fred, who swings in a devious cross that flicks off a Villa head and through to Lindelof at the back post, who nods calmly past Heaton fro close range!

66' GOAL! Man Utd 2-2 Aston Villa (Mings)

ASTON VILLA EQUALISE STRAIGHT AWAY! The away side force a corner fresh from the disappointment of conceding, and while it's initially cleared, Targett clips a second delivery into the box where Mings ghosts in to acrobatically volley beyond De Gea! It was ruled out for offside at first, but replays reveal that a defender was mistakenly playing everyone onside, and VAR gives the goal!
