Manchester United have emerged as the leading contenders to land wanted Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele , according to reports in France.
France Football claim the Reds are "most interested" in the 21-year-old despite strong rumours linking him with Manchester City, Barcelona and Tottenham amongst other big clubs.
The combative midfielder is likely to command a big fee, with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas stating they have already turned down offers "far superior" to €50million.
But United reckon they have the financial clout to make the move happen and bring the new France international to Old Trafford.
A key stumbling block could be the future of Jose Mourinho, with uncertainty surrounding his future at risk of putting off Ndombele.
However, with Lyon commanding a massive fee and stating they'd want a figure in line with what United paid for Paul Pogba, he may simply be offloaded to the highest bidder.
His Champions League performance against Manchester City recently drew praise from Pep Guardiola, and rumours surrounding his future are swirling as January rapidly approaches.
Ndombele recently discussed speculation surrounding his future and revealed he turned down a possible move in the summer.
"I could have gone, maybe things would have worked out well," he told Canal Football Club .
"The club was firm, they didn’t want me to leave. I didn’t feel like leaving, and I think that today you can see that it was the best decision for me.
"Things are going well, I am playing a lot of games, and I am in the French national team. So, I think for the moment it was the best decision.
"I don’t imagine how my career will go, I live it instead.
"Of course they are big clubs, I don't close the door to anyone.
"When I was young I didn’t dream of being in this or that club (like PSG), whether it is Real Madrid, Barcelona, City, I have never dreamed of being in a specific club like that."

Not happening. Their first priority is defense. they're gonna spend close to 100 mil for one. If they have more money to sign a midfielder, then surely they should sign another class defender to make a solid midfield. I'd rather pay 140 mil for de Ligt and de Jong.

It doesn't matter who Man Utd sign. as far as Mourinho remains with as manager, the same irritating football will be produced on the pitch, if they dont get a manager who would fit in well into the Club's system all signings will be a waste!

At the end nothing will come true. I don’t know if United really need to spend for another midfielder again because the defence is the most critical area right now.
