Manchester United have paid Molde around £1.8m (20m Norwegian Krone) to take Ole Gunnar Solskjær ‘on loan’ as caretaker manager until the end of the season, according to Sky Sports.
Solskjaer was announced as Jose Mourinho's interim replacement on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after United parted ways with the Special One, following Sunday's humiliating 3-1 loss at table-topping rivals Liverpool.
The 45-year-old, who began his career as a head coach by managing United's reserves a decade ago, recently signed a new contract with Molde that ties him to the club until 2021.
But we understand the Norwegian side have allowed the fan-favourite to make a temporary return to Old Trafford for an initial £1.8m.
It would cost an additional £7.2m (80m Norwegian Krone) should United chiefs decide to keep Solskjaer beyond the end of the season.
Solskjaer's first test as United boss comes against Cardiff - where he had a short-lived spell as manager in 2014 - on Saturday.
United are sixth in the table and 11 points of a top-four place after their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

Like most United fans I'm delighted with these appointments and hope that they do so well the board won't need to look anywhere else in May. Top Four, F A Cup and CL semi's would be a fantastic achievement and blow away the Mourihno negativity for ever. It's a good squad that's been badly set up and managed, perhaps this might be the boost that they all need.

I can't understand Man United doing this. Why get a guy who failed at Cardiff to be an interim manager and pay £1.8 million for him. What ambitious coach would want to be 'Interim' anyway? I reckon he will be under the direction of Sir Alex and just be the front man.

There are some very good players at MU and IF he can get them to be a TEAM they could really progress up the league. They wouldn't win it but they could get into the top four and win a cup. It happened with Chelsea when they appointed a no hoper and they won the European Cup after getting rid of Big Phil.

Maybe all the current star will start playing as a team and a professional player now. They also could try to emulate him and some of young player could make him as their idol as well. Hopefully the '99 factor could triggered the real potential of Pogba Martial Rashford and Lukaku as well. And it could be the start of striking force to be afraid of after this or to be dubbed as Pogba Martial Rashford (PMR). On the tactical matters... im so hoping OLE will have much more surprise and game plan. To bring in the game changer when situation were bad for us or create a new super-sub as like him before. #GGMU #EPL4THPLACE #UCLSEMI

It's very simple view from ManU board. They want to play attacking football with this team and with the man, ole, who knows inside out of the club he is choosen. When we play attacking football, clearly some players can't be up to the task and those players will be shipped out. so, they can look for better option in the market. Hopefully, they are preparing for next manager to give platform of who can endure with Manu pressure and brand. Let's give it a try and all the best.
