Senior figures at Manchester United growing increasingly confident the team's recent success - and potential summer signings - will see Bruno Fernandes pledge his future to the English giants.

Manchester United believe securing Champions League qualification will be enough to stop Bruno Fernandes from leaving Old Trafford.

And with United needing just two more points from their final four league games to secure a top five finish, senior club figures are increasingly confident Fernandes is going nowhere.

The Portuguese international has a big decision to make this summer. He is under contract at United until 2027, with the option of an extra 12 months. United are under no obligation to give the attacking midfielder a new and improved deal. But United's owners know his influence on the team going forward is crucial to the club's chances of major success.

While the 31-year-old has a £57m release clause in his contract, meaning United would be powerless to keep him should a club he wanted to join come in and meet the price.

Fernandes has made it clear he wants United to be able to match his own ambitions, when it comes to winning big trophies.

But with United poised to secure a return to the top table of European football, the English giants will be in a stronger position to lure their top targets to Old Trafford.

Among their midfield targets are Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde and Adam Wharton.

The one potential stumbling block surrounds the managerial situation. Michael Carrick has worked wonders since taking charge on an interim basis.

But United are considering all options on a the table, before making a final decision. Fernandes is close to Carrick, and would like United to give the job to him on a full time basis.

The former Sporting Lisbon star joined United in 2020 for £47m - and has gone on to be one of their greatest signings of the last decade.

Despite United's recent travails, Fernandes has been a model of consistency. He is one short of the Premier League's all-time assist record of 20 in a season, and is also favourite to win both the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards.
