Manchester United will 'consider Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri' as the club begin to co-ordinate search for their next permanent manager.
Jose Mourinho was sacked earlier this month following a comprehensive 3-1 defeat to rivals Liverpool and club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was brought in until the end of the season on an interim basis.
According to ESPN, while Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino remains the club's No 1 target, Juve manager Allegri will be in the discussion among the club's top brass as they create a shortlist of men they want to succeed Mourinho.
Solskjaer has won his first two games in charge - a 5-1 away win at Cardiff and a 3-1 home win over Huddersfield Town - but the club are likely to continue looking at external candidates.
The ex-United striker, who remains under contract at Molde, intimated in his opening press conference that he would like the job on a permanent basis but it remains to be seen if a decision on a successor will be made ahead of the end of the season.
Allegri is one of the finest managers in world football and should United entice him to Manchester, it would be a real coup.
The 51-year-old is under contract with the Serie A champions until 2020 but has previously made it clear a switch to English football is something he finds appealing.
He was one of the key names in the frame for the vacant Arsenal job when Arsene Wenger departed, but the club eventually opted for free agent Unai Emery following his exit from PSG.
Allegri has led Juventus to four consecutive Serie A titles and reached the Champions League final in 2015 and 2017 - his stature and experience would provide United with an authoritative figure to turn around the club's fortunes both domestically and in Europe.
United want to restructure behind the scenes and bring in a sporting director to ease the workload on CEO Ed Woodward - something that would not phase Allegri given he has a similar set-up already in place at Juventus.

Massimiliano Allegri is a wonderful coach, but we don't need him. We can already see that the style of football at Juve is far from United's style. If Solskjaer can make it to top 4, do well in UCL and at least win a trophy he should continue. Otherwise get Zidane or Pochettino.

No thank you. It’s Poch, Ole or Zidane. No one else.

Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's views and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was goin to say.

Allegri to Man U? Sounds like he needs new challenge to coach Lukaku instead of Ronaldo

Jose 2.0. United will go from defencive football straight back to defencive football. The only positive is that he knows the right targets and can bring out the best in the team defencively but going forward United would never score like they are now under Ole even if I don't see Ole as the right manager. Someone like Poch would be perfect for United....

Zidane will not take on Manchester United. Firstly, he would have to get past Pogba’s immense ego. Then he would have to buy ten or eleven new players to make a team that he could work with. All this is way too much work for the fee United’s board would be willing to pay. Zidane will eventually move to Bayern Munich.
