Championship side Sheffield Wednesday are in the grips of a major crisis ahead of their season opener against Leicester but could be helped by two signings from Manchester United
Manchester United could throw Championship crisis club Sheffield Wednesday a lifeline, with two stars targeted for a move to Hillsborough. The Owls are in a dire situation amid the disastrous ownership of Dejphon Chansiri.
Failure to pay players and staff saw the club put under a transfer embargo. That has since been lifted, albeit Wednesday are still not able to pay fees for any incoming transfers until the summer of 2027.
It has led the Yorkshire side to a disastrous situation where loans and free transfers are their only ports of call to bolster their side. But it appears that two of United’s most promising youngsters could be drafted in.
According to The Star, Wednesday are interested in signing both Harry Amass and Toby Collyer on loan for the following campaign. Both youngsters are available, with Collyer himself having expressed his desire for more first-team football.
Speaking earlier this summer, the midfielder said: "I'll sit down with the manager and higher-ups and see what the best solution is for that, the best way for me to develop, whether it's stay here or go on loan.
"The end goal for me is to play as many minutes as possible here, hopefully starting every week. So I'll sit down with them.
"Obviously, my feeling at this moment is I want to stay. I want to play as many games as possible. I've not really thought that far ahead, to be honest. I'll just see how the next few weeks go and then we'll go over those conversations."
Wednesday kick off their latest Championship campaign as they travel to Leicester on Sunday afternoon. Speaking ahead of that game, boss Henrik Pedersen admitted he wasn’t sure how much work his side could conduct in the remaining few weeks of the window.

“I thought I knew, but now I am a little bit unsure after the statement yesterday,” he said. “So right now I am also waiting for clarity here on what we can do and what we can’t do.
“But in the background Kevin (Beadell, head of recruitment), the coaches and his staff are spending a lot of time to prepare for the window.”
He added: “Of course it is hard with the embargo, but we try to find all the players under this amount of money who can help Sheffield Wednesday. Of course it is a challenge to find a player who can perform now, who can be good enough in three months, who can help us in February, March, April, May. We need to have some patience. We have to hurry-up, but with a sense of patience.”
