MANCHESTER UNITED will face an eye-watering £12MILLION bill if they sack Ruben Amorim this summer.
The Red Devils’ head coach is understood to have a watertight clause in his contract — meaning he gets the remainder of his 2½-year deal paid up if he is ever axed.
There is no suggestion under-fire part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has any plans to dump the Portuguese, who only joined the club in November after Erik ten Hag was sacked.
And that is despite a shocking run of eight defeats and just four wins in his 15 Prem games.
But if things deteriorated further for a team Amorim labelled “the worst” in United history, he would walk away with whatever is left on his £6m-per-year agreement.
The same financial security is understood to apply to all the backroom staff he brought with him when he left Sporting.
And that would see the total cost of the P45s for Amorim and his coaches hit a whopping £20m.
Last week, accounts until the end of 2024 showed United owe a huge £1billion, including £300m to clubs for transfer fees they are paying on drip.
Amorim, 40, whose 15th-placed side host struggling Ipswich at Old Trafford tonight, said: “When you start a season it’s completely different.
“In pre-season you have time to change things. That was my choice. I knew it would be tough.”
Ironically, revelations over Amorim's contract come amid claims rival clubs are looking to buy United's sell-on clauses for ex-Red Devils.
Such clauses have been popular with Old Trafford chiefs when offloading players in recent years.
Scott McTominay, Mason Greenwood, Facundo Pellistri and Hannibal Mejbri are amongst stars with lucrative fees owed if they are sold on.
United would get a much-needed financial boost from selling some clauses.
Ratcliffe is already set to axe another 200 jobs around the club, on top of 250 staff being made redundant last summer.

Stupid Amorim, you should stay with Sporting Lisbon until the end of season. Now, you are blaming Manchester United's squad for all the wrongs until today. Shame on you.

Liar Remember what happen during Ten Hag era,, he said most of our players aren't going good enough Fred, David de gea,Teden Menji, : Eric Bailly, mctominay, Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alvaro Fernandez, Andreas Pereira, were all kicked out and then Erik Ten Hag brought in Antony, Lisandro Martinez. (€48m), Tyrell Malacia (€13m), Matthijs de Ligt, Jonny Evans,, Noussair Mazraoui (€€13m), Leny Yoro (£52m), Mason Mount, Altay Bayındır(goalkeeper), Jack Butland (goalkeeper), Martin Dubravka, Sergio Reguilón(loan), Wout Weghorst(loan), Casemiro, Sofyan Amrabat, Marcel Sabitzer(loan) Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Rasmus Højlund, André Onana, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martínez, he signed a total of 21 players in two years and still nothing changed, and now you people said all this set of players are not good enough , so what happens if Amorim is allowed to sack all this players bring new ones and still team performances fail to improve? For me this coaches are the problem.

stop this nonsense talk everton was battling relegation then Moyes came in and suddenly everything changed same set of players are now playing beautiful football. Amorim has fail to improve this group of players either as a team or as individuals he has succeeded in making this team worst than it was under Erik Ten Hag y. Even Van Nistelrooy did a better job than Amorim.
It’s true.. all does players they are just good enough..

the club's pb is glazer.since 2010 before saf left he had started to shout out glazer management. but he resisted till he won his last epl and after that glazer started to waist amount of money without rejuvenate the club.infrastructyre are aged and dirty academic is destroyed.many youbg players arent anymore believe in that club.they sell or loan players without give them chance to play with first team...today you want to sack evry coachs every year while everybody knows that glazer are destroying the club....uk government must take it personnaly and find solution to sack that family cause united isnt a simple club but a brand and uk uses it in diplomatic area everywhere in the world...

the club is in shambles, cannot imagine this is happening. may spend a number of seasons at the bottom half until new owners resolve the debt issue, club and team management. Ineos has been a letdown so far and not sure if they can turn things around.

save money, tell the players to wash their own kits, and clean their boots. charge them for parking their cars.
