Man Utd fans convinced Sancho has dropped fresh transfer hint from Rooney claim

Manchester United fans believe Jadon Sancho has dropped a hint that he could be on his way to Old Trafford in the summer after the winger admitted he idolised club legend Wayne Rooney as a child.

Although football has been suspended and there is financial uncertainty surrounding the transfer market, United are still expected to try and strengthen their squad when the window next opens.

It's of little surprise that Sancho has become one of the most in-demand players in the world, with a host of European greats tussling over an expected summer move.

United have been repeatedly touted as the club leading the race and fans have got excited after Sancho revealed he idolised Rooney growing up.

"It would have to be Rooney," Sancho said when asked by Micah Richards who he looked up to in the England squad.

"He was doing a madness at United, even at Everton when he made his debut, he was just too grown for everyone at his age."

Some United fans reckon that because Sancho chose a United legend over anyone from his boyhood club Chelsea that he could be on his way back to Manchester.

However, despite the fans' excitement, a move might be difficult this summer due the financial uncertainty as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Dortmund could demand upwards of £100million for their star asset but Ed Woodward has warned that massive money deals may be impossible.

"Nobody should be under any illusions about the scale of challenge facing everyone in football and it may not be 'business as usual' for any clubs, including ourselves, in the transfer market this summer," Woodward said.

"As ever, our priority is the success of the team but we need visibility of the impact across the whole industry, including timings of the transfer window, and the wider financial picture, before we can talk about a return to normality.

"On this basis, I cannot help feeling that speculation around transfers of individual players for hundreds of millions of pounds this summer seems to ignore the realities that face the sport."
