It was hardly a night to savour for Manchester United fans as they watched their team get comfortably beaten by Man City at Old Trafford.
A 3-1 defeat in the first-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side with a mountain to climb ahead of the rematch in three weeks time.
United's mood is understandably down following the defeat and after a performance which lacked so much it was the spirit of Fred which at least gave some supporters a glimmer of pride.
In the dying embers of the match the Brazil international inspired some fight, as he shoved Mahrez off the pitch as the Algerian looked to run down the clock while being subbed.
Mahrez was eager to waste some valuable seconds by slowly making is way to the touchline but was given a helping hand by the United midfielder.
Although the rest of the performance was rather underwhelming the passion shown by Fred certainly gave fans one thing to cheer about late on.
"Love the intensity Fred is showing this season, he's bleeding for the badge!" one fan wrote on Reddit, while another added, "Fred is on his way to becoming a fan favorite for his work ethic and this kind of passion. Love it."

He should move the ball quickly into the net and not opponent players
