Manchester United have a busy summer transfer window ahead with Michael Carrick preparing the squad for the start of next season
Manchester United have had a busy start to the summer transfer window, even though no new arrivals have yet been officially confirmed by the club. The club have already made significant savings and banked a huge £38m for selling Rasmus Hojlund.
The Red Devils are expected to strengthen their ranks ahead of a campaign that will see them return to Champions League football. Michael Carrick faces a demanding task in preparing his squad to compete on all four fronts next season, meaning fresh faces are likely to arrive at Old Trafford over the coming weeks.
United have already struck a deal to bring in Atalanta midfielder Ederson in a transfer worth £35million, with a further £3.8million available in add-ons.
While the agreement is yet to be made official, United have already seen movement on the departures front this summer.
Earlier this month, United confirmed that Rasmus Hojlund had left the club to seal a permanent switch to Napoli, following a loan spell with the Serie A outfit last season.
United are set to pocket a €44million (£38m) fee for Hojlund, with the transfer finalised after Napoli clinched their place in the Champions League.
A number of other players have also moved on from Old Trafford upon the expiry of their contracts, leaving as free agents. Jadon Sancho, Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia are the three prominent earners whose departures from United this summer have already been confirmed by the club.
All three, along with Hojlund, will have been commanding substantial wages that will no longer feature on United's books heading into next season, affording the club greater financial flexibility to conduct their transfer business this summer.

There is also the prospect of Marcus Rashford leaving United on a permanent basis, despite Barcelona declining to exercise their option to sign the England international for £26million.
United have been linked with a number of potential signings, particularly in midfield, with Ederson not expected to be the sole new arrival.
West Ham's Mateus Fernandes has been strongly linked with a move to United this summer, while Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest.
Fernandes has reportedly been slapped with an £80million price tag by the Hammers, and it remains to be seen whether the playmaker will ultimately complete a switch to Old Trafford.
Reports have also emerged suggesting that Fernandes' West Ham teammate Crysencio Summerville is likewise on United's radar, with the Netherlands international said to be valued at around £50million this summer.
It remains to be seen what further signings United will secure before the transfer window closes later this summer, but the exits of Hojlund, Casemiro, Sancho and Malacia will undoubtedly free up considerable funds to bolster their squad.

This is football and strict business. You can't just do it anyhow, it needs proper assessment and scrutiny because poor transfer policy has affected us massively in the previous transfer windows, except last summer. Players right now are tagged on high price, despite the fact that they may not meet their potentials with such amount going forward. Therefore, the policy must be used with carefulness.
