Manchester United are already attempting to bring West Ham's Mateus Fernandes to Old Trafford and it has now emerged they hold an interest in another Hammers star
Manchester United are understood to have approached West Ham regarding Crysencio Summerville as the Red Devils continue to reshape their squad under Michael Carrick.
Midfield is United's focus in the transfer market and a deal to bring Ederson to Old Trafford from Atalanta has already been agreed, with the funds in place to strengthen further. At least one more central midfielder is expected to follow the Brazilian in joining, with Mateus Fernandes a top target.
Talks with Fernandes' agent over a deal have already begun and the West Ham midfielder is expected to leave the London Stadium following the Hammers' relegation from the Premier League.
The 21-year-old is thought to be keen on the move and, as it turns out, may not be alone in trading east London for Manchester this summer with United also courting Summerville.
The Athletic report that United are among a number of clubs keeping tabs on Summerville, who has already caught the eye for the Netherlands at the World Cup. Alongside Fernandes, the 24-year-old, who plundered a magnificent goal for the Dutch in their 2-2 draw with Japan, is one of West Ham's most saleable assets following relegation and could move on.
Summerville's versatility has seen him emerge as an attractive option for United should they move for a winger this summer, though strengthening in midfield will remain the club's priority.
United enjoyed success in the transfer market last summer after targeting proven Premier League forwards in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both of whom added a new dimension to their attack. While Summerville would not require any time to adapt to the Premier League, he would likely cost around £50million as he still has three years remaining on his West Ham contract.
The future of Marcus Rashford will have a significant bearing on whether United proceed with a move for Summerville or another winger in the transfer window.
The 28-year-old joined Barcelona on loan last summer with an option to make the deal permanent, which was previously considered a formality.
However, Barca have since splashed out £70m on a deal to bring Anthony Gordon to the Nou Camp, leaving Rashford in limbo. He still has two years remaining on his contract and, if he were to return, United would probably not seek another wide attacker.
