PSG manager Luis Enrique is one of several names to have been linked with the permanent job at Manchester United, and it appears his future looks closer to being revealed

Manchester United target Luis Enrique is reportedly on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new contract as Paris Saint-Germain manager. The Red Devils remain on the hunt for a new permanent head coach following Ruben Amorim's sacking on January 5.

Interim boss Michael Carrick has impressed during his temporary tenure at Old Trafford, with United well placed to secure Champions League football. Carrick's side currently occupy third spot in the Premier League and hold a seven-point cushion over sixth-placed Chelsea, who sit just outside the final qualification place for Europe's premier club competition.

The Red Devils are nonetheless still weighing up their options for a permanent appointment beyond the summer, with Enrique, Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola, who has reportedly received an offer from Crystal Palace, among the names in the frame. However, The Telegraph report that former Barcelona chief Enrique is poised to remain at PSG, with negotiations over a new deal at the Parc des Princes having gathered considerable momentum.

It is understood that the Spaniard will extend his stay in the French capital until 2029, with the option to add a further 12 months.

Enrique's existing contract runs until June 2027 and, while there is reportedly no great urgency to tie down a new agreement, it is said that both parties are content and eager to settle his long-term future.

The reports come in the wake of Enrique's recent remarks about his long-term prospects in the French capital. The 55-year-old recently dismissed speculation that he had turned down a fresh contract at PSG as "fake news".

He said: "These are rumours that always circulate at PSG.

"We are used to them, they are private matters and will remain so. There is a lot of 'fake news' and they will not destabilise either the players or the team.

"It's normal to have talks, but they remain private. We know what we want, and that's the most important thing. We are calm and relaxed."

Enrique took charge of PSG in July 2023 and has gone on to achieve extraordinary success with the French giants. The former Spain manager steered the Parisians to a treble last season - including a maiden Champions League crown, sealed with a stunning 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the final.

PSG look well-placed to defend their European crown this campaign after knocking out Liverpool 4-0 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.

The Ligue 1 outfit will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.
