Man Utd news: Christian Eriksen makes vow as Kobbie Mainoo warned about snub

Manchester United were left smiling following their thrashing of Barnsley at Old Trafford on Tuesday night but Erik ten Hag's side face a far sterner test on Saturday evening when they visit Crystal Palace.

And Christian Eriksen is determined to let the head coach know he can still play a prominent role after scoring twice against their lower league opponents in the Carabao Cup.

Elsewhere, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have been told they do not deserve to win a prestigious award by a former rival, while Anthony Martial is still in line for an eye-watering pay day after leaving Old Trafford for Greece.

Here are the big tales from in and around Old Trafford over the past 24 hours.

Christian Eriksen has vowed to prove his enduring value to Erik ten Hag and fight for a regular starting place at Manchester United.

Eriksen scored twice in United's 7-0 mauling of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, his second successive start after starring in a 3-0 win at Southampton last weekend. United boss Ten Hag is expected to make new £50million signing Manuel Ugarte and England star Kobbie Mainoo his first-choice central midfield pairing this season.

With skipper Bruno Fernandes occupying the No.10 role, that leaves Eriksen little scope for selection, but the Denmark international is determined to show he can still play a key role for United.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have been told to forget any hope of being voted the world's best young player – despite their heroics for Manchester United.

Garnacho, 20, and Mainoo, 19, have emerged as two of United's most exciting young prospects and established themselves as key players for Erik ten Hag's emerging team.

But former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit reckons there will only be one winner of the Kopa trophy – awarded to the world's best young player – and Garnacho and Mainoo are not in the running.

Anthony Martial will make £7.5million including bonuses over three years at new club AEK Athens, it has been claimed.

French forward Martial, 28, left United when his contract expired in June. He had played more than 300 times for the Premier League club since joining in 2015, scoring 90 goals in total.

His deal in Greece represents a pay cut compared to his hefty wages at Old Trafford. However, by AEK's own standards, the pay-packet - equivalent to a little under £50,000 per week - will be the most lucrative they have ever handed out.
