MANCHESTER UNITED have opened talks with Brentford for star forward Bryan Mbeumo, according to reports.
The Cameroon international, 25, has indicated that he wants to move to Old Trafford this summer.
Brentford are willing to let their former record signing leave this summer, but won't flog him on the cheap.
According to Sky Sports, United have "established contact" with the Bees ahead of making a formal bid.
Mbeumo has attracted interest from the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle and Arsenal this summer.
But United have received an indication that the forward would prefer to sign for them.
The Times claim that Mbeumo wants a hefty wage hike at Old Trafford.
They add that the United target is after £250,000 a week - FIVE TIMES his current £50k salary at Brentford.
Mbeumo has a year remaining on his Bees contract, although the West Londoners possess an option to extend the deal by 12 months.
Brentford are claimed to be demanding at least £60million to let their star forward leave.
Boss Thomas Frank recently said: "It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount. It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot.
"How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club? And then with seven assists plus his work ethic. And his character. All these things mean that he has a lot, so he is a good player."
TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: ALL THE LATEST FROM THE SUMMER WINDOW
Mbeumo joined Brentford for a then-club record £5.8m in 2019, and has since starred alongside the likes of Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney.
After Toney's departure last summer, Mbeumo became the main man at the Gtech Community Stadium, scoring 20 goals in 38 Premier League appearances.
Only Mo Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland scored more Prem goals than Mbeumo last season.
Man Utd are looking to get business done early this summer, having already announced the £62.5m acquisition of Wolves star Matheus Cunha.
While the Red Devils are keen to strengthen in attack, club chiefs are also wary of needing to trim their wage bill.
Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, both on north of £300,000 a week, are set to return from loans at Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively.
While Antony is also due back from his spell at Real Betis.
United were also keen on £30m Ipswich star Liam Delap, although the forward has chosen Chelsea instead.

♻️ If you are a Manchester United fan kindly Read this an take it seriously.... Other football fans can also learn one or two from this. Over the years Manchester United has been a Media Powerhouse and is still One..... This is because they are the most popular and most supported English Team in the world. But due to that we have now turned into a Media play ground.... Manchester United is now the Home of false News, rumours and unverified informations. As Manchester United fans from a place of Love and Hunger for information about the club the media are now using it cash out because they know we will swallow and accept any News about Manchester United. The Transfer Window will get serious soon and we will start seeing more and more false information regarding player transfers cooked by one Journalist or reporter right in his room.... A transfer that even Manchester United and the players are not aware of because they know as long as Manchester United is included it will go far and wide. Some of you even go ahead to insult the board if you don't like the player or blame the board if they fail to sign the player. The worse are those Manchester United pages, so many that know themselves but I won't call their names.... They call themselves fan pages but due to hunger for engagements they just copy and paste anything they see good or bad about Manchester United, unverified from Twitter and add a source to make it look credible. For example 2 days ago, Mbeumo agreed to join Manchester United, less than 24 hours information is out that he is demanding £250k per week.... Manchester United fans, page owners and others are now reposting, sharing and some are even calling him names. But as an intelligent person and fan ask yourself.... How did the media know he is asking for £250k in 24 hours...? Did he call the Media for an interview to tell them ? or they went to his house to ask him...? Because as of this moment there is no discussion about that. Someone said he is open to a move which means the deal won't be a problem and media cooked extra information to sell to the hungry fans because they believe absolutely anything. If Manchester United lose form you start hearing information like the Coach has lost the dressing room and so on.... While Coach and Player quarrel is happening in all Clubs they always magnify that of Manchester United to make the headlines, add up lies because the fan base welcome every unverified information. I have unfollowed so many Manchester United fan page because of this... Even Fabrizio Romano goes fast with every actions about Manchester United because of this. You guys should do better as fans.... It's sad.

250k is too much. 150k would be reasonable. hope that 250k demand does not collapse this deal, we need him
