Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is set to be a wanted man this summer after a terrific season that saw him score 20 goals in the Premier League and Manchester United are said to be leading the chase
Manchester United star Andre Onana is reportedly trying to convince Cameroon team-mate Bryan Mbeumo to join Ruben Amorim's side amid competition from Tottenham.
Mbeumo is in high demand this summer after his best ever season for Brentford. He was the club's star man as he scored 20 goals in the Premier League and now could be set for a big move.
United have emerged as the favourites for his signature but after his manager Thomas Frank joined Tottenham, he is said to be 'intrigued' by a switch to north London.
It's understood Mbeumo is still "leaning towards" a move to Old Trafford as Amorim bids to overhaul his struggling squad that finished 15th last season, with Matheus Cunha already joining the club.
And according to the Manchester Evening News, Onana is doing his best to persuade Mbeumo to pick United over Tottenham, with the pair sharing a close relationship from their time in the Cameroon team.
Mbeumo and Onana have been international team-mates since the former began playing for the side in 2022. Mbeumo has gone on to pick up 22 caps, while Onana has 48.
United have already had a bid of around £60million rejected by Brentford for Mbeumo, while Mirror Football understands Tottenham have bid around £70m and are determined to reunite the player with Frank.
Brentford could be tempted to cash in on Mbeumo while they can given he is out of contract next season - though there is an option to extend his deal until 2027.
The player himself spoke for the first time since rumours began over his future but did not wade into the speculation, instead opting to discuss Frank and their time together at Brentford.
"He (Frank)'s done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start," he told Sky Sports. "I think he developed the team so well. He developed me as a human and a player as well.
"So I can only wish him all the best, and I'm sure he's going to do well. I can only wish him all the best and I'm sure he's going to do well."
He added: "He knows everything; he's really smart and knows what he wants to bring the team, how he wants them to play. He's been fantastic for Brentford."
When asked about the increasing amount of stories about his future, Mbeumo added: ""It is a bit new for me, I would say! I think it can be the life of a footballer and you need to accept it."

It makes sense. It's unconditional love. You love the team, regardless of the situation you are in, you do your best to support the team. Nothing wrong with that. You look where you are, and make it green, instead of looking over the fence for green pastures. Onana loved United, United loved Onana.
