MANCHESTER UNITED stars are losing faith in Ruben Amorim.
But the club's hierarchy are still behind the under-fire manager despite another disastrous day in the derby.
It is understood some of his players are not sold on the controversial three at the back system which the boss insists on.
The Red Devils were thumped 3-0 by Pep Guardiola’s City at the Etihad – meaning they have just four points from four matches.
That is their worst start to a Prem season since 1992 and they also crashed out of the Carabao Cup to League Two Grimsby last month.
Amorim said afterwards he will not change his 3-4-2-1 formation – despite concerns it is not working.
He added the United top brass will have to replace him if they do not feel it is the best way forward.
The club’s leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney revealed he watched the game with some former team-mates.
And none of them could understand the way United were trying to play – with the ex England forward adding they have got worse under Amorim.
Some of the current crop are understood to have the same concerns – although the board are unlikely to ask him to change.
They remain calm and behind the former Sporting Lisbon boss as well as being willing to give him time to get things right.
Part owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was pictured with his head in his hands during a difficult day at the Etihad.
The Ineos magnate sanctioned a £220million summer spending spree for Amorim over the summer.
And sacking the 40-year-old Portuguese now would just mean another rebuild is needed.
But speaking on the Wayne Rooney Show, the former striker said: “We are all watching it, and we all struggled to give what we see how Man Utd play.
“What are the patterns? What are we seeing what might improve the team moving forward?
“Everyone struggled to answer the questions - we have all played the game at the highest level and it is very difficult to see that.
“I don’t think anyone can understand and comprehend what is going on.
“After the last year when Erik ten Hag got sacked and Ruben came in, we’re hearing how they’re going to play and it is going to change.
“I think if the manager is honest with himself it has got worse.”
Amorim has taken just 31 points from the 31 matches since taking charge at Old Trafford in mid-November – losing 16 of them.
That is the lowest points tally of any of the 17 clubs who have been in the top flight across both seasons.
They finished 15th last season and their Europa League final defeat to Spurs means there is no European football for only the second time since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Amorim knows the pressure will continue while the results are not coming.
He said: “It is not a record you should have at Manchester United. You have no diea happened during these months – there are a lot of things.
“But I accept it and I am not going to change.
“When I want to change my philosophy, I will change it. If not you have to change the man.
“I believe in my way and I wil play my way until I want to change.”
The Red Devils have another tough fixture looming with world champions Chelsea arriving at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
United last night denied the squad had lost confidence in Amorim - and believe he still had the backing of the players.

British media trying hard to force a wedge between Amorim and his players like they have done to all managers since Van Gaal. Even Moyes never got such treatment with his poor results as Ferguson's handpicked heir. Even when United lost 1-6 against the same opponents at Old Trafford the criticism wasn't this personal. Even when Ten Hag lost by 7 goals to Liverpool it wasn't this brutal. I wouldn't surprised if City go on to win the league this season because they are that good. Bets (real bets) on Amorim getting fired before December and the British media is a tool for illicit gambling to push Amorim out and collect millions on those bets. It's an agenda that has been pushed over and over again in a world where laws are not designed to question motives of journalists in sport.

TBH saccking amorim wont change anything at United they will continie like this…instead Ruben should make some adjustments to his system until he gets the right suitable playes to play in his system… He need a well crossing, attacking progressive wingbacks in both sided…till jow he doesn’t have it…dirgu is fine in attackingbut there is no output…a Nuno mendes type of player we need..and joe cancelo in the RWB…. Without tjise we won’t function….even Our former player Daniel james will be a great addition in the RWB….united should find a way to

This loss is mostly becuz of Amorims team selction, its true that his already trimmed squad have become even less woth 2 more injuries, but he could have played bruno in a LCAM,a position he gave to mount ,and i believe if mount can play in that position then bruno can play there even better…could have wen with a Bruno for LCAM instead of Amad, and Amad would’ve made a difference in the 2nd half if he came as a sub for tired mbeumu….and mainu and ugarte as a pivot…. This city is the weakest city we will ever get in this season….they were hit with injury crisis and bad form.we could have left with a draw atleast if we put the right players in the right positions…sometimes i feel like Ruben Amorim put players in the team for the sake putting them in the team..even if its not their natural position

I honestly don’t know what’s wrong with United. A curse, buying low-quality players, bad and uninspiring managers, or poor club management. But one thing can be said with certainty: since Ferguson left, United hasn’t been able to adapt to the new conditions of the league and still seems to be living in Ferguson’s golden era.

If Man Utd will improve they can't start with defeating Man City. Let them start with Burnley, Everton, Sunderland, etc.

At least he should have changed the system even for 2 to 5 games and see if it can be the same. since he knows what comes next week that's why he's saying he accepts any decision that might come. sack him b4 it's too late, there's no way you can start ugarte and leave Mainoo on the bench who shud have gotten used to the first team starts by now. It's normal for a player like Sesko not to have scored in the few games played and we can't put the pressure on his shoulders he's still young and this EPL, which might take some time for him to get there. But starting him each game can help him adapt fast but also needs to be used in a system or formation that helps him get more balls into the box but not with stubborn Amorim.
Seriously this coach will destroy Sesko's

Amorim should just leave this club ASAP while there are still more games. If he's so lucky to be in Manchester United through Friday, then he should be parking his bags 🛍️ already coz one thing he should be sure of is to lose against Chelsea.

Just give him only two games if he is not changing then sack him immediately

Let's try Nuno Espirito Santos b4 it's too late or call Micheal Carrick and let him build the team like Arteta, no selling much of his young academy graduates.

I'm very certain, just after the full time whistle Amorim will have already shown the exit door 🚪🚪.... Have never seen or heard this kind of stubborn cockroach confidence in a Coach like this one. A Coach who cannot match the players to the system they can get results from is as good as dead while breathing.
