Man Utd told £60m and £150k-a-week wages would land them top EPL forward

Manchester United have been told Liam Delap would be an excellent fit at Old Trafford, with the club reportedly making the Ipswich Town forward their top summer transfer target

Manchester United have been told a fee of £60million and wages of £150,000-a-week should be enough to seal Liam Delap's signature. The Ipswich Town forward is reported to be the club's main target as Ruben Amorim looks to overhaul his squad in the summer transfer window to address a lack of goals.

The 22-year-old has bagged 12 goals in 30 Premier League appearances for the Tractor Boys this season, making him an attractive prospect. With Ipswich on the brink of relegation to the Championship, Delap is understood to have a release clause of £40m included in his contract.

United won't be short of competition if they do chase a deal, with Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool also said to be interested in acquiring the former Manchester City youngster's services. While it could trigger a potential pay-out to their neighbours, ex-United goalkeeper Ben Foster thinks Delap would be the perfect fit at Old Trafford. However, he insisted it may cost the Red Devils may need to pay more than £40m to win the bidding war.

"Where's Liam Delap going to go because he's leaving Ipswich guaranteed," the former England and Wrexham keeper said on his Fozcast podcast. "He's probably got ten teams looking at him in the Premier League, because he's a plan A for a few and he is an unreal plan B for a lot of them.

"It's going to cost £60m just because of his age. He's young, he's shown what he can do and he's aggressive. I think he'd be a fantastic addition for any of those teams.

"Man United could sign him and he would suit them down to the ground as well. When they're willing to pay you 150 grand a week, I think he’d go there."

However, while Foster suggested he would make a good back-up option for many teams, Delap is understood to want a move to a club who will allow him to play regular football. United have struggled to find the net this season, averaging barely over one goal per game in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes is the club's current top scorer with eight goals, while Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have only mustered three each. United's shortlist of strikers was previously said to include the likes of Sporting CP's Victor Gyokeres, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, and Eintracht Fankfurt's Hugo Ekiteke, but Delap now appears to have edged ahead of them.

Discussing his transfer priorities last week, Amorim said: "I just want to focus on our strengths and bring in one or two players - big players. We need to focus and we are doing all the stuff to be next season so much better.

"In my idea, I cannot manage this thing of 'in four years we will try something'. We need to be so much better now. This is a massive club. The focus must be how to improve our team in every aspect. The Premier League is so difficult."

"I hear a lot of people saying Sir Alex Ferguson won three or four years to win something - but it's not possible these days, because you have to give three interviews before every game, so the pressure is so much different."

He added: "But we are Manchester United. There are a lot of good things. No matter the pressure, we have to be there with the other big ones. We have to face a lot of adversity and a lot of big teams, more than in the past."
