Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has hailed one summer signing who will be a mainstay for years to

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand reckons Senne Lammens could be the club's first-choice goalkeeper for the next decade after being hugely impressed by what he has witnessed from the young Belgian shot stopper. The 23-year-old arrived at United for a reported £18.2m and has been a regular fixture in the starting XI this season following his debut against Sunderland on October 30.

Lammens has featured 30 times across all competitions, and he delivered a crucial performance in the reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light at the weekend. The United goalkeeper thwarted Noah Sadiki in the opening half before producing a sharp save to deny Brian Brobbey in the second period.

The match finished 0-0 but the Belgian was outstanding when required and Ferdinand has lauded his 'cool head.'

"The calmness that he's brought, the amount of saves that he's made and the difference-making that he's made with this team, I don't think you can put a number on that," Ferdinand told his podcast.

"He's been superb and he's young. That's what I love about him, he's young, he's still going to be getting more experiences and he's only going to get better from now on.

"I don't think it matters how good or bad he plays, I think he'll be the same level - very level-headed and he won't get out of his pram too much about anything.

"I think he's one for the next 10 years at Manchester United, he's going to be the No.1. He's someone again, got a definite great foundation to start building from what he's shown this season."

United drew a rare blank against the Black Cats, failing to find the net for the first time under Michael Carrick since he took charge of the club on an interim basis.

The Reds only truly threatened Sunderland late on through Matheus Cunha, but Ferdinand remains unconcerned by the lack of attacking threat.

"We can't expect perfection everywhere," he said. "Sunderland have caused havoc and trouble for a lot of teams at the Stadium of Light, that's been a fact all season.

"So to expect that we're going to go there and dismantle them without even a blink of the eye I think is, one, disrespectful to Sunderland, but two, we're expecting too much of Manchester United in that sense for where we are."

Carrick's side have already sealed their return to Champions League football and sit just a single point away from guaranteeing a third-place finish come the end of the season.

That would represent a timely boost ahead of the summer transfer window, with a higher league finish bringing with it a significant financial reward.
