Man Utd transfer news: Bryan Mbeumo agreement in place but summer deal collapses

Manchester United are eyeing a move for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford after already completing a deal for Matheus Cunha this summer as Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his squad

It's been a busy start to the transfer window for Manchester United. And perhaps it should be no surprise after a dismal 2024/25 season.

Ruben Amorim has already added Matheus Cunha to their squad after activating his £62.5million release clause and now United look set to land another Premier League star. Bryan Mbeumo, fresh from bagging 20 goals for Brentford, is keen to make the move as the Red Devils move on after missing out on Liam Delap.

It's not all been plain sailing as Bruno Fernandes ' futures sees plenty of speculation. The Portuguese star has turned down a move to the Saudi Pro League however.

The club will hope to facilitate exits for the likes of Marcus Rashford and Antony however. And Jadon Sancho will likely be on the list of exits in the coming months too.

Mirror Football takes a look at the latest news and transfer rumours around Old Trafford.

Mbeumo 'verbal agreement'

News broke on Monday evening that Bryan Mbeumo preferred a move to Manchester United over the likes of Newcastle and Arsenal, and not it appears the forward has an agreement with the Red Devils ahead of a move.

Sky in Germany report that Mbeumo has made a verbal commitment to the club and United are 'optimistic' of getting a deal over the line with Brentford. Negotiations between clubs are said to get underway to finalise a deal.

United monitor Donnarumma

Manchester United are among a handful of clubs monitoring Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Paris Saint-Germain star continues to see contract talks drag on with the Champions League winners.

Fresh from playing in PSG's triumphant Champions League campaign, which saw a 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan in the final, Donnarumma's future appears to be up in the air. The 26-year-old's contract is set to expire next summer.

Talks over an extension have already taken place and the club have tabled a proposal. Foot Mercato, via GFFN, however, reveal that Donnarumma has plenty of admirers among Europe's elite and they are lurkin in case the shot-stopper opts against signing a new deal.

United are among those clubs and a move for Donnarumma would appeal given there are still doubts over Andre Onana following another mixed season for the Cameroon star.

Sancho deal collapse

Chelsea are set to pay Manchester United £5million after failing to reach an agreement to make Jadon Sancho’s loan move permanent. Sancho spent the season on loan at Stamford Bride and the Blues were obligated to make the deal permanent after finishing higher than 14th in the Premier League.

But the west London side did have a caveat in the deal which would allow them to renege on that commitment providing they cough up a £5m feel. That will now transpire.

Chelsea are said to have wanted to retain Sancho's services but could not come to an agreement with the winger. The Blues did not want to match the salary he was earning at United.
