Manchester United are expected to park their interest Matthijs de Ligt once they seal the capture of Lille prodigy Leny Yoro... unless there are defensive sales.
The Red Devils have been active in the transfer window with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos at the helm with Yoro, 18, poised to become the club's second summer signing after Joshua Zirkzee completed his switch from Bologna at the weekend.
United have agreed a deal worth a potential ยฃ58million for Yoro, who was thought to be holding out for a dream transfer to Real Madrid. But the sought-after teenager is now set to complete his move to Old Trafford after agreeing personal terms and completing a medical on Wednesday, having been impressed by United's determination to sign him.
With a limited transfer budget, some have questioned whether Yoro's arrival will bring United's pursuit of De Ligt to an end - and it seems that could well be the case.
Manchester United headed into the summer with the intention of strengthening at centre-back and De Ligt, 24, was identified as a priority target alongside Yoro.
However, United are looking now to press ahead with strengthening in other areas after landing the France Under-21 star - putting any move for the Bayern Munich man on hold. That's not to say they won't return however; United could make further changes in defence if players can be moved on, and they remain admirers of the former Ajax man.
Lisandro Martinez is Ten Hag's No.1 centre-back but both Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire could depart if the price is right. The club are actively seeking a buyer for Sweden international Lindelof who had his contract extended by a further year last season.
Maguire may not start the season as first-choice and he is determined to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford. His wages are putting off potential Premier League suitors too.
United had two bids rejected for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer - refusing to go near Everton's ยฃ70million valuation - but their impending capture of Yoro, who has been on the club's radar for some time, is regarded as a major coup.
Yoro's preference had been a move to Real Madrid. But with the Spanish giants unwilling to meet Lille's demands and wanting to wait until next summer to sign Yoro on a free, he has decided his future lies in the Premier League with United.

Maguire isn't determined to stay and fight for his place in the team. ๐ He is determined to stay and fight for his paycheck because if he leaves, he won't get that much pay again. ๐๐๐๐

Now that young and talented players are coming in, average players refuses to depart. Man utd can still get at least 50/60m for the sales of Maguire and Lindelof, and use it to fund de ligt transfer.
