Manchester United may have to dig deeper to sign Matthijs de Ligt following the cruel injury setback for new signing Leny Yoro.
The recent £59million signing from Lille earlier sustained the injury in United's 2-1 defeat by Arsenal in Los Angeles on Saturday. While United haven’t disclosed the severity of the issue, the early signs are not good.
After coming off in the first half of the defeat, the 18-year-old was pictured on crutches and wearing a protective plastic boot on his left foot at UCLA, United’s training base in LA. The potential loss of Yoro for a prolonged period would be a major blow for United and boss Erik ten Hag, who planned to start the new season with the French youngster at the heart of his new-look defence.
Ten Hag has other issues in defence, with Lisandro Martinez not yet back in training after helping Argentina to Copa America glory. The Premier League opener against Fulham on August 16 could come too soon for him.
Victor Lindelof, who has been linked with a move away from the club, has only just resumed full training following a minor injury. As it stands, Ten Hag may have to start the season with veterans Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in the heart of his back four. Left-back Luke Shaw is another option among the existing players.
United are hoping to bolster their defensive ranks further and Bayern Munich's De Ligt, who played under Ten Hag at Ajax, remains on their wish list. United has verbally agreed personal terms with the Dutch defender, but the clubs remain apart on the fee.
Bayern won't allow a player they signed for more than £60million from Juventus two years ago to leave on the cheap. While it won’t take that much to prise the 24-year-old away from Bavaria, United could feel forced to up their offer in the wake of Yoro’s injury.
Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite is United’s other main defensive target. Again though, the clubs are apart on a valuation, with the Toffees holding out for at least £70million for the 22-year-old. United have seen a bid of £45million, plus £5m in add-ons, rejected by the Merseyside club.

just get 5 players for 1 position so injuries wont be an excuse for a poor season..Ten Hag will never acknowledge that his fitness training are giving too much strain on his player’s physical condition
Is it the case with Yoro too?

I think it's high time we acknowledge that zero Hug is an injury curse to our team and next thing we will know is another 8th finish at the excuse of injuries. Maybe he angered his Dutch ancestors while leaving from there and now our team is suffering from the kwensikwensiz

Jonny Evans will as well got injured due to his fragile fitness records. Needless to mention Luke Shaw because he's always on the injury list. So signing another defender should be top priority for now if we want to excel at the earlier stages in the premier league.

They should get a defender on loan after they sign De Ligt as a cover for Yoro.
