Manchester United interim head coach Darren Fletcher was left with mixed emotions after a 2-2 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor.
Fletcher, who stepped into the role following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal on Monday, saw his United team go behind early on through an Ayden Heaven own goal.
United turned it around in the second half with Benjamin Sesko scoring a brace, but ended up drawing a third consecutive match in the Premier League for the first time since December 2018, as Jaidon Anthony equalised with a wonderful strike.
Fletcher, who was at United for 11 years as a player, was immensely proud to have overseen a Red Devils match as coach, but that pride was overshadowed by frustration.
“I’m disappointed we didn’t win the game, I can’t hide that,” he told Sky Sports.
“To be 1-0 down in the first half to come out and show that character in the second half to go 2-1 up but then to concede and not be able to get a third goal and go on and win 3-2, that's the disappointment.
“But in terms of the experience of leading the team out, preparing the team, the fans, the support everything, it was a pleasure, it was an honour."
Despite reports linking former players Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick with a caretaker role until the end of the season, Fletcher confirmed that he would take charge of United for the upcoming FA Cup match against Brighton.
He said: “I've spoken to the board and I'll be in charge for the Brighton game and we'll take it from there.
“It's one game at a time.”
Burnley boss Scott Parker commended the performance of his side, despite their winless run extending to 12 matches, the joint-worst in their Premier League history.
He told BBC Sport: “I demanded a reaction [after the defeat to Brighton] and every one of the players wanted that reaction as well.
“So we come off the back of a result at the weekend where we were hugely critical, me as well to the group, and the players as well.
“We let ourselves down at the weekend in a certain element that we need to bring to a game of football in the Premier League and we did that.”

I agree with you bro..cunha needs competitor..and case needs an upgrade in that midfield..then we need the presence of de ligt at the back because the ones we have can't bully attackers..we also need upgrade on shaw and dalot..then we need someone as good as Bruno In case we lose Bruno in the summer.

Cunha need a competitor, he is stupid sometimes, Case is getting old and have no more legs to run, De ligt is much needed at that center back otherwise we will never survive to any opponents

i said it when amorim made us loose uel. shaw dosnt anymore deserve to play in that team.even dalot. we need young and fast players.we have them but amorim didnt promoted them.i hope that OGS will do it. we also need another good play maker who can support bruno. why not try casemiro mainoo and bruno or start to find a other dmf who will sub casemiro. we need a young and dynamic midfielders...and another 2 wingers.cunha must get his game level up! and finaly the glazer's family must leave.this is our big pb.

Man U hiring amorin was big wrong decision… he sold the players who were supposed to be backup depth of the team.. now the team is lacking that. But something positive about fletcher is he giving everyone a chance not just favoritism like Amorin did.. which will give the development of young talent

This team are going nowhere the players we have are not good enough so I think we are going to be a mid table team at best, not challenging for champions places as we should be it’s about time the fans realise that and stop deceiving them selfs.

He did that mistake of taking off a brilliant and innovative midfielder Bruno and even taking of Heaven and Casimero, they were controlling that midfield.Even Ugarte was brilliant.

It is easy to make comment and criticise as pundit but now as coach you taste your medicine of criticising other as coach.

but what's wrong with Manchester united players? they play as though they don't want to play. they are not aggressive at all. they lose balls and they don't bother to chase for the balls, they just either stand or walk away from the opponents, hence open chances to be scored. they lure opponents in their own penalty box. they are all a desert. they don't show attacking abilities. you don't see teamwork and goal hungry. we need total overhaul from top managers to the players. I rest my case

Mr fletcher you missed it or lost it when you carried out surbustutions. you were to leave the winning team finish the match. when you did that I saw you go wrong just like the former coaches.

ManU Caretaker coach make wrong substitution and the team lost it direction and motivation. The team performance after substitution were very poor and some players were playing for a draw rather than a win.

Listen, I saw something different today, attacking from all sides, quickness, coming from the middle not just Long balls and crossing. Sesko scored 2 amazing goals, reminds me of Zlatan, needs more precision, but it could be a work in progress. Some of our players are average yes, but there’s something in there, a bit more focus. But this is definitely 100% better than the Portuguese, Dutch, Austrian, etc experiments, this is more attacking football, Guts and Glory!

in case you forgot, the first leg united won in the last minute thanks to a penalty... playing with a full team

I think Fletcher realised that this is not an easy job. The team played the same way as they did with Amorim. They did create chances but they did not play to win they play to avoid defeat. Many of the players are very average Dalot, Shaw, Dorgu, Mount, Urgate, Sesko, Zerkzee and Cunha. At best Man United can finish 7th or 8th.
