Manchester City let it slip late on to blow WSL title race wide open

Neutrals have Stina Blackstenius to thank after her two late goals for Arsenal against Manchester City ensured the conclusion to the WSL title race will be thriller.

City’s battle with Chelsea is on a knife edge and could come down to goal difference — as long as Chelsea do not slip up in their game in hand at Tottenham on May 15.

After going ahead through a fine finish by Lauren Hemp, City gradually allowed the Gunners into the game.

And it was Blackstenius who stepped up, pouncing on a corner pinging around in the box in the 89th minute.

Then, three minutes later, Kim Little’s cross found the Swede’s head and she converted.

City boss Gareth Taylor said: ‘We will pick ourselves up. We’ve always reacted well to negative results. We wanted to be in control and we’ve lost a bit of that.’

Chelsea later thumped Bristol City 8-0 in Emma Hayes’ final home game to move one ahead of City on goal difference.
