Manchester City watch Vinicius Jr as Guardiola future matters

Manchester City continue to track the contract situation of Vinicius Jr. at Real Madrid. Tied to the Spanish giants until June 2027, the Brazilian winger has yet to reach an agreement over an extension.

The Brazilian player is reportedly demanding a €5 million annual raise to exceed €20 million in fixed wages, while the Madrid board, led by Florentino Pérez, favour a bonus-based deal linked to goals and trophies. Despite talk of reduced influence following the arrival of Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius has still posted 13 goals and 11 assists in 37 appearances this season.

According to reports in Spain, City have advised the player to take his time and avoid renewing too quickly, keeping open the possibility of a free transfer in 2027 or a cheaper move in 2026. Contacts have already taken place with his representatives, but the situation largely depends on the future of Pep Guardiola, whose contract also runs until 2027.

His tactical approach is not considered a perfect fit for Vinicius, and a potential change on the bench could make the Manchester project more attractive. For their part, Real Madrid remain confident about extending their winger’s deal, and the player himself is not pushing for an immediate departure, leaving the door open to a long and delicate standoff.
