The Glazer family are considering selling Manchester United as they seek new investment into the club, according to reports on Tuesday night. The club has been owned by the American family for 17 years, a reign dominated by protests and a decline in standards on the pitch for the past nine years.
Protests against the owners have escalated again in the previous 18 months and chants against their ownership have been audible at every game this season.
Sky News are reporting that the Glazer family are now 'preparing to formally announce its intention to examine potential sources of outside investment', which could include a full sale of the club.
A statement confirming the family's intentions to seek new outside investment could come imminently, but on Tuesday United were refusing to comment on the reports.
Speculation about the Glazers' plans has been rife for a couple of years, with Manchester-born billionaire Jim Ratcliffe among one of several parties linked with a bid for the club.
If the Glazers do confirm their plans to look at options, including new investment and a sale, then they will be the second American-owned club to do so in recent weeks, with Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) also looking to cash in.
The move comes after the sale of Chelsea to the Todd Boehly-led consortium earlier this year, with the estimated £2.5bn sale raising eyebrows after the club was eventually forced into a sale after owner Roman Abramovich was hit by sanctions by the UK government.
As part of their response to the European Super League fiasco, the Glazers planned to introduce a share scheme for supporters but it still yet to be launched despite discussions with the Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST).

Say what you want, we also know some details of the account. Ronaldo said the club is not abreast with time and thus lagging behind. Jim Ratcliffe interest in buying Man United was swiftly and politely declined by the Glazers family who he qualified as nice people. A couple of months ago they were not willing to sell. Ronaldo’s bombshell has reshaped their mind . I agree with you when you say this might pull off potential investors. But we are talking of Man Utd. Hopefully someone will pop up.

The fans had been fighting the ownership of the Glazers for years ever since the takeover hence the breakaway club fc utd and the large protest at old Trafford. Delusional people think it is a result of Ronaldo. No. Ronaldo interview put off potential investors because utd fans are expected to sabotage again similarly to when TeamViewer sponsorship. with the club pulling out due to vanishing profits, the club is expected not to make hefty profits in this dire financial environment. Americans won't waste time with unprofitable business. Ronaldo interview is just the final straw on the camel back. man utd and it's fans thank Ronaldo but certainly not regarding this issue. it is the hard work of utd and all who love utd in the right way. we love everyone who support utd but definitely won't encourage treachery and betrayal.
