Manchester United striker Greenwood's partner gives birth to their first child

Suspended Man Utd striker Mason Greenwood today announced his girlfriend has given birth to their first child - five months after hearing he was no longer facing charges of assault and attempted rape.

The 21-year-old announced the news on his Instagram today with a black and white image of two adult hands next to a baby's. The photo included the caption '11.07.23' next to a love heart emoji.

Greenwood and his girlfriend recently held a baby shower with friends and family last week where his partner showed off her baby bump in a fitted white dress while accessorising with a white Prada handbag and heels.

The footballer has been suspended by United for the last 17 months since his arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of attempted rape and assault, and has been unable to play for the club or train with the rest of the squad.

Today is the first time the footballer has posted on Instagram in 18 months.

Last month, he was pictured working out on a sports centre pitch with a personal trainer. He was also seen training with team-mate Anthony Elanga as he awaits the outcome of the club's

Away from United he has looked to keep a low profile.

The most likely outcome is that he goes out on loan to a foreign club next season, and it emerged last week that he could be used as a makeweight in United’s bid to sign Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

It’s understood that United’s football director John Murtough has discussed the possibility of Greenwood making a temporary move to Atalanta during his negotiations with the Italian club over Hojlund.

Greenwood is said to have already rented out his Cheshire home, although United sources say that talk of him going on loan to Italy is highly speculative given that his future at United is still undecided.

United have yet to make a decision over Greenwood’s future at the club despite launching an internal investigation in February after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against the 21-year-old.

The player released a statement after the CPS announced their decision, writing: 'I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support. There will be no further comment at this time.'
