Manchester United trio Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Scott McTominay enjoyed an afternoon of paddle boarding in Los Angeles harbour.

They were pictured enjoying some down time from the club's US pre-season tour and were also given a talk.

The two Spaniards and their Scottish team-mate were helping to raise awareness about the threat of plastic in the ocean.

The event took place on a boat docked in the harbor in Los Angeles beachside community Marina Del Rey and was put on in collaboration with Parley For The Oceans and Adidas.

After absorbing the information at the talk, the players took to the water, although Mata seemed to struggle to remain upright.

With a single paddle to propel themselves, the 30-year-old fell in the harbour, as did McTominay.

Both saw the funny side and enjoyed an relaxing afternoon on what has become an arduous tour for United.

Jose Mourinho's side recently suffered a 4-1 defeat by Liverpool in front of 101,000 fans at the 'Big House' in Michigan.

The United manager has repeatedly complained about his threadbare squad and admitted his side could be 'in trouble' at the start of the new term after such a disruptive pre-season campaign.

On Wednesday, Mourinho's side conclude their trip to the US with their final International Champions Cup clash against Real Madrid.
