Manchester United starlet Anthony Elanga can play his international football for England but Sweden reportedly remain confident of getting the winger to commit to them.
The 19-year-old has burst onto the scene under Ralf Rangnick in recent weeks after being given very few first-team opportunities by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier in the campaign.
Elanga has started each of United's last three Premier League games and found the back of the net in the 3-1 win over Brentford earlier this month.
His form has reportedly attracted the attention of the FA who, according to The Sun, are aware that Elanga's time of residency in the UK mean he can play his international football for England.
Elanga has represented Sweden in the youth ranks of international football after he was born there and played for Malmo earlier in his career. He has chalked up eight caps for the country’s under-21s and scored seven goals.
He's been so impressive that Sweden boss Janne Andersson wanted to include him in his squad for a training camp in Portugal this week but Rangnick demanded he stay in Manchester.
The camp, which was eventually axed because of Covid problems in Portugal, was not going to include any senior pros with Andersson analysing his options ahead of their World Cup play-off against the Czech Republic in March.
Elanga, the son of ex-Cameroon defender Joseph Elanga, joined the United academy when he was 12 but it's reported that Sweden are confident the winger is committed to them.
It's also thought the English FA are not making any real moves to get him to switch allegiance but it is a possibility if his sensational form continues.
Rangnick revealed he watched footage of Elanga on YouTube before he took over at Old Trafford and knew straight away he had a talent on his hands.
'I must say from the very first day from my first training session, he showed up,' said Rangnick after the win at Brentford.
'l had heard his name before and I was in my hotel room watching videos of him on YouTube, I thought this boy was really good.'
Heaping further praise on the Sweden international, Rangnick said he even stopped the teenager going out on loan - such was the impression he had made.
'He was almost on his way out on loan. I told him: "You will not go out on loan, you will stay here." He has developed in training,' he continued.
