Edu’s sticky situation

Arsenal technical director Edu has come in for significant criticism since the beginning of the summer window, with many fans unhappy with the business conducted.

Six players arrived at the club for a total of 150 million pounds, but only three (Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Martin Odegaard) are set to immediately improve the Gunners’ starting XI.

This fact, combined with a nightmare start that has seen the club slip to 20th place without scoring a goal and conceding 9 in the process, has understandably led to questions being asked of the senior management.

In an interview with Sky Sports, however, Edu pleaded for patience, saying:

“I respect all the pressure. I came in from Corinthians and then the Brazilian national team where there is unbelievable pressure, just as here.

“I understand the fans. I understand the reason and I accept that, but we will need a bit of time to do what we plan to do.

“I know this type of work, when we are talking about signings, and needing patience hurts Arsenal fans a lot, but it is the reality.

“That’s why when I say to you we have to create a good foundation and to create a good foundation you need time.”

However, rumours continue to swirl, and former Gunner turned Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has been a man suggested to replace the Brazilian.

Overmars happy to stay

Speaking to AjaxTV, however, it appears as though Overmars will be going nowhere in a hurry. The dutchman revealed:

It seems that were Arsenal to part ways with Edu therefore, they would have to look elsewhere for a replacement.
