Martin Odegaard was a standout performer for Arsenal as they just fell short of winning the Premier League title against Manchester City, and has sent an exciting message to fans

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has thanked supporters after receiving the Player of the Season award. The Norwegian playmaker looked forward to the 2023/24 campaign with the Gunners hoping to replicate their title challenge and compete in the UEFA Champions League.

Odegaard scored 15 goals and provided a further eight assists in 45 appearances and was a standout performer for Mikel Arteta last term. The 24-year-old led Arsenal's Premier League title charge after being handed the captain's armband at the start of the season following Alexandre Lacazette's return to Lyon.

football.london reported last month that Arsenal are preparing for contract talks with Odegaard. The Gunners are keen to extend the Norwegian's deal which is currently due to expire in 2025, although there is an option to extend by a further 12 months.

William Saliba is another player that Arsenal are hoping to tie down to a new long-term contract following Bukayo Saka's extension. Arteta is looking to add more reinforcements to his squad this summer - prioritising a move for West Ham captain Declan Rice.

Odegaard stepped up his performance level last season and is looking forward to returning to the pitch next season after scooping up the Player of the Season award. In a video posted on social media, Odegaard said: "I just wanted to say thank you so much for awarding me your Player of the Season.

"It's something I value very high and something I really appreciate coming from you guys. To be recognised by you is very special for me.

"So just wanted to say thank you and I also wanted to take this moment to thank you once again for the amazing support from you guys throughout the whole season. What you've done for us this year has been absolutely top class from start till the end.

"So, yeah, I just wanted to say thank you and also I'm looking forward to seeing you guys after the break. I'm sure we're going to have a very special season together, so I can't wait to see you back at the Emirates [Stadium] and, yeah, looking forward to that."
