After an ambitious showing in the Club World Cup, Inter Miami are shifting their focus back to the ultimate goal: conquering Major League Soccer. The team advanced from a tough group featuring Al Ahli, Porto, and Palmeiras, but their journey ended in the Round of 16 with a hard-fought loss to European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Now, it’s back to MLS business—and the club is dreaming big.
Javier Mascherano, speaking to the press, confirmed that Lionel Messi will be available for this weekend’s clash and emphasized the positive takeaways from their international experience.
Macherano proud of Inter Miami’s Club World Cup campaign
“We went toe-to-toe with the best teams in the world. That level of competition gave us invaluable lessons,” Mascherano said. “Even though we’re still dealing with a few injuries, the squad is ready to refocus.”
Inter Miami travels north to face CF Montréal this Saturday, July 5, with kickoff set for 7:30 PM EST. The match is a key opportunity to climb the Eastern Conference standings and get the title campaign back on track.
Head coach Javier Mascherano offered a candid take on the team’s roster situation, emphasizing that while he’s proud of the current squad, the lack of reinforcements has taken a toll—especially at the elite level of competition.
“I don’t like to disrespect the players we have, I’m proud of this group,” he said. “But going into the Club World Cup with so many injuries definitely hurt us. At this level, it’s tough to maintain rhythm, consistency, and focus with such a short bench.”
Inter Miami looking to strengthen key areas
The Argentinean acknowledged that he’s already voiced his thoughts on potential signings to the front office.
“I’ve had conversations with the club and shared what I think the team needs. No reinforcements have been brought in, and you’ll have to ask the people responsible for that,” he said pointedly. “My job is to coach the players I’ve got and build the best team I can. Everyone needs to handle their own responsibilities.”
