The two Manchester United players weren't happy with the management of the organisation.
Now, president David Aganzo is facing corruption allegations after a story broken by MARCA on Monday night.
There has been no official confirmation of Mata and De Gea's exits and the quiet way in which it was done means that some board members haven't actually realised.
The silent nature of their departures speaks for itself and, given that it happened a month ago, it's not related to the recent allegations against the president.
Mata and De Gea's resignations leave 11 remaining board members, meaning the voting majority is now six.
