Mbappe facing awkward return amid Arsenal & Chelsea transfer hope and £259m bid

PSG forward Kylian Mbappe is the subject of a bid from Al Hilal, as well as reported interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs, but could be heading back to Paris next year

Kylian Mbappe could face an awkward reunion next year as questions surrounding his future at PSG continue.

The French club have already left the 24-year-old out of their pre-season squad over his refusal to sign a new deal, while Al Hilal are said to be open to a one-year contract in order to complete the transfer. PSG are said to have already received other offers for Mbappe and are determined not to lose him for free. Meanwhile, PSG will be forced to pay Mbappe a £51.6m loyalty bonus, if he has not left before August 1.

However, there is another situation on the horizon for Mbappe that either PSG or another club will have to face, a year from now. Paris is preparing to host the Olympics in 2024 and Mbappe is seemingly  desperate to represent France  in his hometown after missing out on a chance to play in the previous games in Tokyo.

Speaking in 2021,  Mbappe said  : "I feel destined to participate in this huge celebration in my city, in my country, a hundred years after the last competition in France."

It is said that France captain Mbappe negotiated a clause into his contract that would allow him to play in the next Olympics, which will surely also factor into any potential transfer negotiations. However, the opening ceremony is set to start less than two weeks after the 2024 Euros final.

“We talked about that in the [PSG] contract discussions. This is a real opportunity, it will be 100 years after Paris 1924 and it’s one of sport’s biggest events,” Mbappe told TF1 in May.

“Sport is about feelings and emotions. The opportunity to play in a competition like this at home in front of family, friends and with the entire world watching you is something you can’t ignore. It’s a child’s dream and I have always said I want to participate in it. I hope I’ll have the chance to.”
