French superstar Kylian Mbappe reportedly has no interest in triggering a one-year extension in his current PSG deal which expires in summer 2024.
The PSG star reportedly signed a three-year contract before the 2022-23 campaign but according to L'Equipe it is a two-year contract with the option of an extra season.
This means that at the end of this season, the forward will enter the final 12 months of his deal, and PSG will again be in the position of deciding whether to try to extend his contract or sell him to avoid losing him for free at the end of his deal.
This was the case in the summer of 2021 when Real Madrid had made their interest in Mbappe clear when they submitted a final bid of £154million for the Ligue 1 star in an attempt to pry him away from Paris - which failed.
However, Los Blancos may be able to land the French superstar for free next summer as the 24-year-old looks to run down his current deal at the Parc des Princes.
According to L'Equipe, PSG had been confident that Mbappé will stay through to 2025 but that same belief is not shared by the player himself.
Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in the recent World Cup final, has little interest in triggering the extension, according to the French outlet.
The former Monaco forward has until July 31st to trigger the clause in his PSG deal. If not, he will surely see out the remainder of his deal and leave for free in 2024.
PSG are then placed in a precarious position where, surprisingly, selling their most valuable asset may be the wisest decision - as opposed to him leaving for nothing.
Mbappe became PSG's joint-record scorer with a goal in Ligue 1 against Marseille in February - in the same game Lionel Messi scored his 700th club goal.
The French international has long-been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, sparked by their pursuit of Mbappe in 2021.
After that failed attempt, and Mbappe's new deal at the Parc des Princes, interest cooled off but there has been expectations that the Spaniards would come again.
The forward has previously insisted that he is 'very happy' at PSG. He said: 'For me it's a privilege to play here. I'm from Paris and being at PSG is special.
'I arrived when I was young and I've grown and matured a lot, on and off the pitch, since then.
'I don't think so. If I linked my future to the Champions League, and I don't want to disrespect the club, I would have gone very far!
'I am here and I am very happy, and for the moment I'm not thinking about anything other than making PSG happy.'

He didn't stay for the Money, well that wasn't the main reason... He honestly wanted to win the Champions League for them and then move on.
U're totally right....To d extent that the France president had to beg him to stay in PSG

From to July 31st is still far, he can change his mind any time, just the way he changed his mind during the time Real Madrid almost signed him, he will stay till 2025 and even renew his contract again...😁😁

He's probably looking for a higher wage than he has already, this lad is a very good politician. He's awesome but if he stays at PSG, he will end his career with nothing more than league 1

Madrid will come crawling at his feet 😁 And when they do (and they will), he'll trigger the option and MADRID will be left with no option that to pay the 222 million release clause on his contract to get him. In Reality though, Madrid won't be moving for Mbappe as Florentino has clearly stated that "Today Mbappe is forgotten". Madrid habour no intention what so ever of Signing Mbappe in the near or distant future as they consider Vini Junior the better player 🤣 (Mbappe and Vinicius plays the same wing). Sources which would safely be considered unreliable have linked Mbappe to Man United 😂, but in reality Mbappe is too big a player to sign for Man United, as a player of his caliber would have his sight set on winning as many trophies as possible in other to keep up the Inevitable Rivalry with his Norwegian counterpart in the person of Erling Haaland, something Man united would not be able to guarantee him. Given the prevailing situation, it wouldn't be unwise to suggest that Mbappe would fancy his chances of playing for a Top team that would Atleast guarantee him a shot at Europe's Flagship competition (UCL) every season, Bayern Munich and Liverpool being one of many. When this would happen remains to be seen. In all, Goodluck to Mbappe !
