Mbappe sends message to Sancho after winger helped Man United win Carabao Cup

Kylian Mbappe sent Jadon Sancho a heartfelt message after he helped Manchester United win the Carabao Cup final, less than a month on from returning to the squad.

Erik ten Hag's side triumphed 2-0 over Newcastle at Wembley on Sunday to bring United their first piece of silverware since 2017.

Sancho, 22, only returned to Ten Hag's side on February 1 after taking a break from first-team action amid concerns over his mental and physical well-being.

The England international was put on an individual training programme in Holland in order to get back up to speed - and since returning in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest, he has scored twice but more importantly has looked visibly happier.

Sancho, who has been frequently used by Ten Hag since his return, only came on as a late substitute against Newcastle, replacing Brazilian winger Antony in the 83rd minute.

After United's Wembley glory, Sancho posted a photo alongside team-mate Marcus Rashford with the trophy. 'Carabao Cup winners,' he wrote on Instagram.

Sancho was all smiles as he posed in front of his first trophy for the club, which prompted several high profile names to congratulate him on his superb comeback.

PSG and France star Kylian Mbappe commented: 'Good to see you with a smile' - alluding to the United star's recent break.

Both Sancho and Rashford have had to overcome challenging periods, but the England stars have shown determination to come out the other side this season.

The United pair - along with Arsenal's Bukayo Saka - suffered horrific racial abuse after missing penalties against Italy in the Euro 2020 final.

With red-hot Rashford enjoying his best season to date, and Sancho back among the goals on his return, United fans will be hoping the pair can lead Ten Hag's side to more silverware this season.

United face West Ham in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday, while they booked themselves in the Europa League last-16 with a historic win over Barcelona last Thursday.

The Red Devils also continue to hunt down Manchester City and Arsenal in the Premier League, although they are eight points adrift of Mikel Arteta's table-toppers.
