The teenager has often been compared to the footballing legend, who has sent the France and PSG star a signed shirt

Kylian Mbappe has shown off a signed shirt from Pele after he followed in the Brazil icon's footsteps at the World Cup.

Mbappe scored four goals at Russia 2018, including a superb strike in France's final defeat of Croatia, as his efforts this summer earned him the award for best player at the tournament.

Earlier in the tournament, the 19-year-old forward became the first teenager to score more than once in a World Cup match since Pele hit a double in Brazil's final win against Sweden in 1958.

Pele subsequently sent his congratulations to the Paris Saint-Germain superstar though he jokingly threatened to come back to reclaim his records.

Now, the legend has shared a signed shirt with the teenage attacker, which Mbappe proudly displayed on social media.

"Thanks for this amazing gift, King," Mbappe wrote on Twitter alongside a snap of him holding the present.

Mbappe has said it is "flattering" to hear about comparisons with Pele, but the teenager is determined to forge his own path.

The Paris Saint-Germain star has carried over his sterling form this summer into the 2018-19 campaign thus far.

Currently serving a red-card suspension, Mbappe has already scored four times and added two assists in just three appearances in Ligue 1.

He also scored a late equaliser midweek against Liverpool in the Champions League, though PSG ended up falling on a stoppage time winner by Roberto Firmino.

Mbappe will be eligible to return in Ligue 1 against Nice on September 29.
