According to Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, McTominay is expected to be cleared to play on October 6.
The Scottish midfielder has been sidelined since undergoing heart surgery on September 8 to address a benign arrhythmia. Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna said before the September 5 away match against Inter Milan: "It takes 28 days to get clearance to play. He is taking anticoagulants that are prohibited during games and must rest for two weeks, followed by two to three weeks of non-contact training. That's roughly the timeline, but the player may need more time."
Napoli hopes McTominay will return after the international break, around the second weekend of October. Manna said: "McTominay is doing well, but he has not fully recovered yet. This first occurred in June when he was playing for the national team, and it recurred in recent weeks. We chose to schedule the surgery before the international break, hoping he can return after the break, because the team will play nine games in a few weeks."
According to Manna's recovery timeline, McTominay is expected to receive medical clearance to return on October 6, but will still need time to regain his fitness. Napoli hopes he will be fully recovered by October 24, when the team plays Roma at the Stadio San Paolo.
