When the ball crosses the line in the 94th minute, with the game balanced at 2-2, and the referee doesn't give the goal then a player would naturally be extremely frustrated.
This is precisely what happened to Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portugal side during their World Cup qualifier against Serbia, leading to the Portuguese captain throwing his captain's armband to the ground in anger.
Ronaldo has come in for criticism from his home country following these scenes and former Portuguese international Fernando Meira says that, although the Juventus forward was right to be frustrated, he shouldn't have reacted in the way he did.
"It's clearly a goal, but Ronaldo can't throw the armband on the ground like that," Meria told Record.
"Cristiano's reaction is natural, but it's not acceptable from the national team captain.
"You can't throw the armband on the ground and head into the dressing room while the game is still going on."
Meira also thinks that Ronaldo needs to control his temper a bit better.
"It's not acceptable behaviour for a player of his stature," he continued.
"I understand his frustration and I agree with him because his goal should have counted, but the referees need to make a decision without VAR and he has to set an example.
"The example he set last night wasn't good enough."
Ronaldo had his say on the incident too
Ronaldo commented on the incident on his Instagram page.
"Being Portugal captain is one of the biggest privileges and honours of my life," he wrote.
"I give and always will give everything for my country and that will never change.
"But there are sometimes difficult moments we have to face, above all when we feel the whole nation is being affected.
"It's time to pick ourselves up and look forward to the next challenge. Come on Portugal!"

I still can’t understand how some people are still trying to defend Ronaldo for his yesterday actions... it is completely unacceptable from a national team captain to remove the armband and throw and the follow that’s a huge disrespect not only to his teammates and coaches but to the whole nation.. the armband on the pitch is like the flag of the nation it represents the whole country... when Messi or CR7 does something wrong whether they’re are your favorite or not you need to man up and criticize them for crying out loud..

truth is throwing his armband was bad it's as if Portugal team caused the problem. he should have punched the refree instead🤣🤣 cos the was the problem. But walking out of the pitch was good. In the first leg of porto juve were denied a clear penalty which who knows if it were given they would have qualified for semis. And what if this goal Portugal were denied of makes them not qualify for world cup it will be more painful.
