Messi: Argentina can't be happy with leaving a good impression, we want to win

Lionel Messi won't be happy with his summer's work unless he lifts the Copa America at the end of it.

The Barcelona forward is yet to win a senior international honour with Argentina, with the 2021 Copa America one of his final chances to do so.

Argentina were set to host the whole tournament after Colombia lost their hosting duties, but CONMEBOL have ruled against it.

Before the Copa America, the Albiceleste have two crucial World Cup qualifiers to play against Chile and Colombia.

"I'm very happy to be here with the boys," Messi said in an interview with the media of the Argentinian Football Association (AFA).

"It's a strange and different situation that we're dealing with.

"We can't have a normal camp. We're gradually getting together, working hard and preparing for the qualifying games.

"I'm very excited and really hungry to do well.

"In the last Copa America we left a good impression, but we can't just be happy with that.

"We want to keep improving. The last qualifiers we played were very good. Unfortunately, it's been a long time and we couldn't get together to play again [in the meantime].

"We have to try and kept our rhythm back as soon as possible and keep improving.

"It's always special to be with the national team. We want to win, that's the goal. The boys and the experienced ones are really up for it.

"I think we have a very united group, with a very good core that has been worked on since [Lionel] Scaloni arrived, with the boys that he's brought in.

"We've got a very good group and that's the important thing. It's got to be a very strong group for the challenges that await us."
