Lionel Messi maintained his fine scoring form in Europe with the opening goal in a fortuitous victory for Barcelona over PSV Eindhoven and he now has six from three games, that takes his overall tally in the Champions League to 106 goals.
He has more goals than any other player with one club, surpassing the 105 by Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid, but he still trails the Portuguese overall by 15 goals, with 15 struck for Manchester United and one for Juve.
Messi's fine goal which he struck while surrounded by rivals means that he has now equaled the landmark of 565 hit by Gerd Muller in a Bayern Munich shirt and only the 643 by Pele for Santos is ahead of him.
The Argentine now needs to get 78 more goals for Barcelona so as to reach the total by Pele which is quite possible considering his scoring form up to now.
After the PSV game, which saw Barcelona finish top of their group, Messi spoke to the press and he wasn't pleased by the performance.
"We lost a lot of balls cheaply, allowed them to counter too easily and they had a lot of chances," said Messi.

This so called record means absolutely nothing. I will never be convinced that Messi is really equal to Ronaldo when he cannot perform well outside of Barcelona.
