Thierry Henry announced Dennis Bergkamp is the best player he ever shared a pitch with while providing Champions League coverage for CBS Sports on Tuesday.

The programme's presenter Kate Abdo put the Arsenal legend on the spot asking: "Who is the best player you played alongside?"

To which Henry responded without hesitation: "Dennis Bergkamp." Abdo questioned the Frenchman's pick, asking: "Not [Lionel] Messi?"

But Belgium assistant coach Henry stood by his original response: "Dennis Bergkamp. Is it quickfire? Dennis Bergkamp."

Henry won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups alongside Bergkamp, who is regarded as one of Arsenal's greatest ever players.

In an interview with The Independent, Henry said: "I have always said Dennis Bergkamp will remain the best partner I have ever had. He is a dream for a striker."

"I knew everything he had done in England. I had an image of him made and Suddenly we were on the same team. What I feel for Titi may be a form of admiration.

"I loved Henry. The ease of finishing an action, how he takes the road to the goal and ends the play. He gives the impression that it is natural. His career, his dribbling, the last gesture. It is fluid, proportionate."

Messi and Henry would form a special understanding on the pitch, winning the treble in the stunning 2008/09 season under Pep Guardiola.

Henry was at Barcelona for three seasons and got to see Messi's progression into a world-beater.
