This Saturday, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) sent a document to the Ethics Commission of the Conmebol attaching a personal apology of the captain of the team, Lionel Messi.
All this with the purpose of appeasing the atmosphere after his controversial statements after the match against Chile of the Copa América Brazil 2019.
According to the newspaper La Nación, in the letter sent by the AFA, the Barça player admitted that he did not refer any particular official when talking about 'corruption' within the entity. In addition, he admits that his words were for "the fever of the moment".
Messi was sent off for the second time in a clash against Gary Medel, where the Chilean threw him on his heels. During the altercation, the Paraguayan referee Mario Díaz de Vivar decided to expel both without reviewing it in the VAR.
The Argentine star was very critical of the refereeing and the handling of the Copa America, reason why the leadership of the maximum entity of the South American football determined to take letters in the subject.
The AFA leadership wants CONMEBOL to close the Ethics Commission's investigation and focus on the disciplinary files for the expulsion and for their statements after the match.
Those close to the Argentine leadership believe that the possible sanction can not go beyond a warning or a fine . They also hope that the suspension to Messi for the red does not pass a game and asked that it can be met in the friendly match on September 5 when Chile and Argentina face again in the city of Los Angeles.

I laugh at all those saying he shouldn't have apologized, it takes so much humility and courage to apologize for saying what is obviously the truth, my respect for Leo Messi just got skyrocketed. I do not expect everyone to understand his reasons for apologizing, many claim to be intelligent which may be quite true, but it pays to have wisdom than to be intelligent. An intelligent man understands what is said but a wise man knows and understand what is left to be said. Intelligence is heat, it burns, wisdom is warmth, it comforts. God bless you Leo Messi, let yr haters who claim to be intelligent say what they like, the wise ones perfectly understands your reason.

In the 1st place, Messi shudn't have said that. 2ndly, l hope his apology is genuine, it's coming from his heart. All of us as human make mistakes, but to say that"it was a setup so that Brazil cud win the copa", shows that he belittles Brazil, & yet Brazil has a beta winning record against. Germany beat Brazil 7-1 in 2014 in Brazil in the semis. As a true sportsman, you simply concede defeat & wish the winners good luck. That's futbol!!! Even at Barca, it's become difficulty for him to win trophies now. He needs not to reduce himself after all the good work he's done to make a big name for himself as the greatest futboler. You're a role model Messi, anger can damage the reputation you've built over the years. Upcoming futbolers look up to you.

i am a big fan of Messi.. but I admitt that Messi ahould not talk about coŕruption especially after losing Copa.. There may be some wrong decision that helps Brazil to win Copa that doesn't mean The whole Copa was set up for Brazil.. in some matchs Refrees make stupid decision at the end which influence the result of the match.. That doesn't mean that refree done it purposefully.. To be honestly some stupid decisions of refrees also helped my love 'Barca' to win some matchs.. and some decision went to wrong against us and it was not intentionally... so what i mean is those were just mistake not corruption...

Whatever Messi said was true. Messi criticise the refs and VAR rarely and so, What messi said is not an excuse for losing. Messi dont have to apologize.

Leo did apologized and that's humility from an icon to those looking up to him. True we are humans and to "err is human" but what is the reality in the matter. The referees now have assistance from a video system called VAR which reviews goals, faults and player's actions among others. When penalty cases such as the match against Brazil and the tussle in the match against Chile isn't reviewed by VAR, Leo as captain and the entire SA should criticize it's failure. It should be Messi all alone. Thanks Leo. you are always slow to speak yet humble to apologize. Don't forget what you can't have isn't yours. You are already written in our memories forever. Long Life.
