In an internal poll of Brazilian media Global Sport among 81 journalists, the best footballer in the world is the No.10 of Barca, well ahead of Van Dijk and Ronaldo.
A day after that UEFA chose Virgil van Dijk as the Player of the Year in Europe, it is already beginning to discuss what effect it will have on the individual big prizes in 2019, with the Ballon d'Or and The Best FIFA Men's Player in the spotlight.
Despite the great football rivalry that exists with Argentina, the Global Sport of Brazil conducted an internal survey among 81 journalists who raised Leo Messi, as the player who deserves to be chosen as the best by FIFA with 313 points, clearly ahead of Van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Dutchman gets 124 points and Ronaldo sits 3rd with 87 points.

If there is any Honesty in FiFa and Football they should give it to Messi, because his influence to Barca was much greater then VVD was to Liverpool! Last season Suarez, Dembele, Coutinho and Rakitic were not on their top level. Messi was the men who brought Barca to semi final of champions league single handedly! Were as VVD has great Coach with great strategy and a lot of top players that were playing almost perfectly on their top level. Ballon dor is an induvidual trophie > in this case they should give it to Messi!!! Even Ramos deserves it more then VVD, he was consistent and won the champions league many times!!! But unfortunatly there is no honesty in todays football!!! Running away or calling for help to be the best!!! Haha

That's his award if there is fair playing ground. He beat everyone practically on individual performance. Best dribbled, best assists, best creative midfielder, highest goal scorer in league and champions league etc.

UEFA as well as FIFA should make it clear to the audience how the individual's points are being counted..They should make a standard formation for giving an individual. For example, the winner of ucl team's best player will get a certain points then then runners up team's best player as well as every champion team of their respective leagues will get a certain points then the individual players performance also be counted..I think it will make sense to everyone..

Where was Messi when Argentina was suffering? Where was he when Barcelona were being kicked thoroughly by Liverpool? VVD was there to command and buttress Liverpool's defence all the way to the champions league trophy. Vvd commanded Holland's defence all the way to the final of the uefa nations league. Messi is only good when he plays for one team!!!! This is a fact!! Don't be blinkered by considering goals, dribbles and assists only. That's being lazy!! Include number of interceptions, tackes, forward passes, through passes,clearances and leadership skills. Even goalkeepers are players too. Thanks uefa for removing your blinkers by widening your net to all areas of the football pitch.
